The following day, Norwich start back in the second tier with a trip to Cardiff, while newly promoted Rotherham and Wigan begin home games against Swansea and Preston respectively. Sunderland host Coventry on Sunday 31 July and Watford meet Sheffield United at Vicarage Road on Monday 1 August. The championship will continue until Matchday 21 on November 12 – by which time the teams have played six rounds of matches during the week – when the competition is paused for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. But while the Premier League does not resume until Boxing Day, it will resume just under a month later on Saturday December 10 with a full round of play which also included the Lancashire derby between Blackburn at Preston at Ewood Park heard. The regular season concludes on Saturday, May 6, with each game kicking off simultaneously at 3:00 p.m., and the play-off semi-finals to follow, although dates for those games will be set closer to the time. The actual first round of the FA Cup begins on the weekend of November 5th, with the second round three weeks later and the third round on the weekend of January 7th. The final will take place at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 3 June. The Carabao Cup begins the week of August 10th, with the second round a fortnight later and the third round the week of November 9th.
