Rainforest Alliance

It's time for another Feel Good Friday alliance, y'all. With Earth Day approaching on April 22, I'll be focusing on environmental organizations like the Rainforest Alliance for the next few blogs. (Author: Gardener)

Rainforest AllianceWith Earth Day approaching on April 22, I'll be focusing on environmental organizations like the Rainforest Alliance for the next few blogs. Founded in 1987, the Rainforest Alliance is "an international non-profit organization working at the intersection of business, agriculture and forests to make responsible business practices the new normal." Its vision is "a world where people and nature thrive in harmony." . To achieve this vision, they are building an alliance to protect forests, improve the livelihoods of farmers and forest communities, promote their human rights and help them mitigate and adapt to the climate crisis. Watch this 5 minute video to meet some of the farmers who are part of the Rainforest Alliance. Their work focuses on certification, landscape management, advocacy and supply chain services. The Rainforest Alliance works with forest and farming communities, indigenous leaders, businesses, governments and global citizens in 70 countries to promote more sustainable land management practices and cultivate thriving rural economies - the most proven strategy to conserve our tropical forests. They also train farmers in low-carbon farming practices, helping them adapt to current climate impacts and prepare for future challenges. The Rainforest Alliance certification program is followed by over 2.3 million farmers around the world. They are assessed against rigorous sustainability standards based on the triple bottom line: environmental, economic and social wellbeing. Companies that meet these standards are eligible to use the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal. The impact of the Rainforest Alliance over the past 34 years is impressive. 6.8 million hectares of farmland are certified to sustainability standards and over 5,000 companies work with Rainforest Alliance to source certified ingredients. You can now buy certified products in over 100 countries around the world. You can also help create a more sustainable world, protect nature, and improve the lives of farmers and forest communities by purchasing Rainforest Alliance merchandise, staying at a certified hotel on your next vacation, or making an old-fashioned donation. Like the Rainforest Alliance Facebook page and follow them on Twitter @RnfrstAlliance and Instagram @rainforestalliance.

The Covid, control and coaching problem

Covid, control and coaching Two years and 3 vaccinations later - I have Covid. This is week 2. (Author: Gardener)

Two yearsOh less, but a double dose of Chez Bentley was NOT what we needed over Easter when our two boys (and the eldest's girlfriend) would all be at our house. As an acquaintance put it, he was happy to know it was indeed because of Covid that he was feeling so awful - otherwise he would have been worried! I have a strong family unit and a larger community of people to support me when needed. I'm demanding, focused and have a really positive attitude (most of the time!) and I KNOW I have (some) control over my own empire, my own business. I have interests other than my work so yes I am busy but busy with different occasions. And being a lazy preneur, I know that a few days off isn't a problem as I've been decluttering a schedule for the last few weeks which has made me feel free and flexible. Even though I haven't been able to see my family at an important time of the year for me, I know it's important to rest and get this out of my system as I have an autoimmune disease and staying healthy is crucial - one Break is now important longer term. And that's exactly what I offer my customers - a level of support and partnership that really helps them negotiate the significant bumps (mountains?) in the road. * To make them feel comfortable. * Work and live with ease and flow. * People who are ready for coaching and will benefit from it. Right now, hiring a business coach may be the best decision you can make when it comes to leading, marketing, growing and scaling your small business. Business coaching absolutely IS a powerful way to take your small business or freelance project to the next level, but it will NOT work for everyone. So if you're considering it, especially in the face of unpredictable external forces, I've compiled seven reasons why coaching could be a way forward for you. 1. It can be a wise investment of your time, money and energy - especially if you are trying to grow your business or are working in an unfamiliar field. Working with a coach can accelerate strategies and actually put things into action, but also avoid the frustration of hitting dead ends. 2. Coaching enables you to get CLARITY about what you want (your goals) and why you want it (your purpose). And with the right coach, they'll help you implement the strategy and—crucially—help you stay on track by holding you accountable for your projected progress and helping you understand how you're evaluating that progress can (CHECK – CHECK – REWARD). Path. 3. Busy entrepreneurs need help to stay motivated and focused, especially during tough times. Coaching can help you find new sources of energy that will allow you to get ever closer to your goal. Start with small steps as you get back on your feet – but DO NOT settle for “good enough” in the long run – because continued growth and scaling leads to great results. 4. Because it involves regular check-ins, brainstorming sessions, and intense dialogue, coaching gives you the opportunity to solve problems faster, so they don't undo your efforts later. And they don't ruin your personal relationships - because honestly, your best friend and chosen partner may be your cheerleaders, but that doesn't make them experts in YOUR business - and sometimes, when times are bad, they really won't be the best people for you , who prick up their ears... 5. So, even if you know exactly where you're going, chances are pretty high that your perspective will change over time - and having an outside opinion from an experienced trainer can help business growth and change be extremely valuable. 6. Hiring a coach is not an admission of failure, weakness or insecurity. Rather, it is a wise decision by ambitious individuals who know they have great potential but need support to develop a clear vision, develop strong habits, and nurture healthy relationships with key stakeholders such as customers, employees, and partners. It can really provide a competitive edge (although a great trainer will show you how to eliminate concerns about your competition with the right strategies for you). 7. Many people consider hiring coaches while they are still building their business, other times they hire one once the business has taken off or is successful. Your needs may change at different stages of your business's evolution—even from quarter to quarter. A coach can help you through all phases of a venture, right down to your path to the life you dream of (although a great coach will start thinking about exit strategies from day 0). In a world where everything seems out of control, there are myriad or expensive "fixes" to problems you don't even have - you just feel like they're "fixing" something that might be preventing you from succeeding, instead of training exactly what you actually need to achieve your dream goals. When you cash out, you're doing it for something that actually benefits you - not just the 6- or 7-figure person selling the big ticketed single-topic training course that you have to go through yourself with no tailored strategies or solutions offered . Think carefully about who you work with and recognize that you are buying an expert's valuable time, you are buying YEARS of experience, you are buying their expertise and their own investment in professional development. From them, from you, and in monetary terms - a financial commitment. Working with someone who will cut through the confusion, pressure, frustration and instead go straight to work where you grow profitably and pave your way to financial freedom with ease and flow - it doesn't come cheap. Invest in quality and not only do you have a coach in your pocket, your return on investment (ROI) can be HUGE - if you have the right person on your side. ♈ ARIES March 21 to April 20 When two people hide the attraction they feel for each other, love cannot begin. But if you do get a chance to talk to that person, just a touch of flirtation... (Author: Gardener)

Are you feeling unhappy? Here are 13 superstitions you should know to avoid bad luck on Friday the 13th

Whether you're superstitious or not, it wouldn't hurt to be extra careful on this unfavorable day. Here are some important dos and don'ts. (Author: Gardener)

Friday the 13thNo, you can't just go to the SPCA animal shelter and ask for a lucky rabbit. People used to believe that having a back of a rabbit was a great blessing. Ladders usually mean there are workers at the top and there's a good chance something will fall on your head. There is also a chance that you will knock over the ladder and trip the worker. Thankfully, most tables in Hong Kong are round, meaning we don't have to worry about who sits where like westerners do. But the idea that the people sitting at the corners won't get married might have something to do with the fact that a table's corner position is an awkward one, which is why it's only used in emergencies and usually by less powerful people. Salt used to be a precious commodity, so spilling it inevitably cost money. It was used to purify and preserve things and was credited with almost spiritual powers. We're not sure why it would be better to throw extra salt over our shoulder. Just make sure no one is standing behind you. It's not hard to see that opening a large, sturdy umbrella could catch someone's eye or knock over Mom's expensive vase. Also, it's always best to avoid the awkward "how do I get in the door?" Moment. Well, especially when you're being plagued by goblins and the horseshoe is made of iron. These days, horseshoes are more commonly made from steel, aluminum and even plastic, so if you can find one make sure it's iron. That's because goblins and other pesky little creatures are afraid of iron. Which way to hold your horseshoe: Leave the open part on top so all the luck doesn't fall out at the ends. Many Westerners consider it good manners to bless a person who is sneezing. People used to believe that the soul left the body during a sneeze, and blessing the person prevented evil spirits from taking over their body. The happiest days the Young Post and our up-and-coming reporters have ever had will have you laughing out loud this Friday the 13th. We're assuming this happened before electric lights made it possible to trim your nails pretty much anytime -- just never in public. Aeons ago, a simple cut could prove deadly because people didn't know much about keeping things clean and sterile. "Step on a crack, you'll break your mother's back," is the rhyme. Children often avoid cracks in the pavement or anywhere else. And that's not a bad idea, especially when dealing with unexplained cracks in the ground that could hide sinkholes or worse. Many cultures are suspicious of black animals, particularly cats and dogs, believing them to be either witches in disguise or evil spirits. They don't need to tell us that they're not unlucky at all and that being kind to animals is a sign of true strength. Okay, so the phrase says someone unlucky "got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning." But most people are happy to deal with this superstition by getting out of bed on the same side they came in - which, in a way, you have to do if you live in Hong Kong. Mirrors used to be surrounded by all sorts of superstitions. Modern mirrors were only invented about 200 years ago by a German chemist named Justus von Liebig, and they used to be affordable only for the very wealthy. However, when modern mirrors first appeared, they were very expensive, required both glass and silver, and were not mass-produced. So it was really bad luck to break one. But people believed all sorts of things about mirrors, which would be a whole new article!

Severance shows that Apple TV+ isn't just a good football comedy

Every Friday, Nevada Sports Net's Jared Brosnan, a lover of movies and TV, will review a movie or show and give you his thoughts on the weekend. Severance pay. Where to watch: Apple TV+ Creator: Dan Erickson. (Author: Gardener)

AppleEvery Friday, Nevada Sports Net's Jared Brosnan, a lover of movies and TV, will review a movie or show and give you his thoughts on the weekend. Storyline in 25 words or less: Four colleagues who are surgically unable to recall their memories of the outside world begin to question their "outsider" selves and what they actually do at work every day. Many of us watch TV, sports or movies at the end of the day to forget about the work day. It's an opportunity to relax and think about something else that doesn't affect our everyday lives emotionally and financially. Imagine if you were at work without worrying at all about your family, friends and who is going to win the game tonight. Then when you left work, everything you did that day was blank and you couldn't remember it until you showed up at the office the next day. For the workers in the "separate floor" of the fictional company Lumen, this is their life. Her "outies" have agreed to permanent surgery that will split the brain between work and personal life. What if we could skip the 8 hours of work and go home straight away? The problem is that since a full third of a day is not remembered at all, we would have no way of knowing how our minds and bodies are being treated in those 8 hours. Written and created by Dan Erickson and executive produced/part-directed by Ben Stiller, Severance takes a new look at corporate life and the struggles people go to to be happier. Each colleague in Lumen's Macrodata Refinement unit has performed the severed process, but still carries bits of their own personality. The show lets you know that no matter how hard the higher levels try to make you a corporate shill or corporate man, your own feelings, thoughts, and opinions still rule. As the director of five of the nine episodes, including the last two episodes, he excels at creating a gripping conclusion that will leave viewers short of breath when the season ends at the last second. The cast, led by Adam Scott, does a fantastic job showing the difference between their "innie" and "outie" personalities. There are several twists in the show that will hook viewers towards the end of the season, some you can see coming and some you can't. What stands out the most is the way one episode flows into the next. For a show that doesn't release all episodes at once, the way each episode ends is incredible. Severance wants people to get hooked. Severance seems to have borrowed a bit from other shows like ABC's Lost and HBO's Westworld. It should be noted that Erickson first came up with the idea for Severance before Westworld went on the air. The way the characters of Lost and Westworld constantly wonder who they are and why they're stuck here is similar to Severance. Of course, this is only for half the time of Severance's characters and not the entirety of the other two shows. Not many people will honestly say that they don't want to skip the workday and be at home or with friends all the time. Separation shows how people will try to convince themselves that this is helping them outwardly while turning a blind eye to how others will treat them if they don't remember it. We should always be in full control of our own lives. No company should own the rights to who we speak to, the questions we ask, and the memories we create for ourselves. Severance is a fantastic series that people should be eagerly awaiting for the start of the second season. After winning Best Picture for CODA at the Oscars, Severance will now compete at the Emmys this fall. (Not that Apple needs financial help.) They also inked a new deal with Major League Baseball, which airs games on Fridays throughout the season. Her subscriber base would grow with the word-of-mouth of the Oscars and the Severance. According to Variety, Apple doesn't disclose its subscriber numbers, while Disney+ tops 120 million worldwide. Perhaps Tim Cook and the company will share new dates at the next Apple keynote. NSN Daily Producer Jared Brosnan grew up and worked in the film industry in Los Angeles.

Good Friday is said to be the "warmest day of the year".

Make the most of the weekend, UK said, with sunny spring weather on the way (Author: Gardener)

FridayBrits can look forward to the 'warmest day of the year yet' tomorrow as a 'warm southerly airflow' lifts temperatures on Good Friday in time for the Easter holiday. With temperatures reaching 22C in the south-east, Friday's weather is set to beat March's heatwave, according to the Met Office. “Comfortable spring weather will be seen everywhere, but weather appears clearer in the south and east, while slightly warmer temperatures will prevail in the central and western areas on Saturday. However, the Met forecaster advised sun-seekers to "make the most of the weekend" for Easter activity as "Monday expects more average temperatures and wet weather." According to the Met Office, Friday will be light everywhere except for parts of the north and west, which can experience cloudy spells and bursts of rain and drizzle, which tend to taper off later. Warm weather will take a slight dip on Saturday which will see a mix of clear and sunny periods with cloudier areas and some showers. There will be a few patches of mist and fog inland initially, and more extensive areas of low cloud and fog on some coasts will push temperatures down somewhat in those locations, particularly to the east. Elsewhere it will be warm to the touch, especially with any sunshine, but perhaps a little cooler than Friday. Easter weekend could bring nice weather, forecasters say (PA Wire). Sunday will be similar, although overall likely drier than Saturday, with showers mostly limited to the north and west. However, sustained rain from the west in the evening signals a shift to unsettled, cooler weather from Monday. Rain showers will move east on Monday followed by lighter conditions and showers overall making for a more average temperature than the weekend. Parts of the south and south-east are expected to remain mostly dry, with the heaviest rainfall in the north-west and west. Brits have been urged to make the most of the warm weekend followed by a colder weather front (PA) Chief Meteorologist Neil Armstrong said: "Most people will see a few bouts of decent bank holiday weather this weekend and it will feel like it in places warm, especially for the first half of the Easter holidays. "However, later on Sunday a low pressure area will hit the north west of the UK bringing unsettled weather to the north with some strong winds and rain in the north west which could affect driving conditions for some but it will be drier further south. especially in the southeast. "There will be variable amounts of cloud but temperatures will likely be well above average for the time of year, although low cloud could keep temperatures lower in coastal areas. Dry for most, although spotty rain may affect some western fringes. Some clear spells elsewhere, but also areas of low cloud and fog, most likely in the west and south. Warm sunshine develops in most southern and eastern areas. Some western and northern regions will be cloudier at times with patchy rain, with the odd heavy shower possible across Northern Ireland. Some fog or fog near the coast but mostly dry with warm sunshine over the weekend. Rain from the west late Sunday through Monday.

Maguire insists 'he won't be evicted from Man Utd by a cowardly fan'

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire was defiant as he reportedly insisted he would not be forced out of the club despite a bomb alert at his Cheshire home following a threatening email. (Author: Gardener)

Manchester UnitedManchester United captain Harry Maguire was defiant as he reportedly insisted he would not be forced out of the club despite a bomb alert at his Cheshire home following a threatening email. Maguire, 29, lives in Wilmslow, Cheshire, with his fiancé Fern Hawkins and their two young children, and a spokesman for him said on Thursday: "In the last 24 hours, Harry has received a serious threat to his family home. "The safety of his family and those around him is obviously Harry's number one priority. Maguire has drawn repeated criticism from fans this season and the threat was exposed a day after United's humiliating 4-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield. But a source told The Sun on Thursday night that Maguire believed the threat was the work of "a cowardly fan". The source said: "Harry will not be forced out of Manchester United by this type of threat. "His top priority will always be the safety of his family, but he also has the strength of character to handle it. It looks like the work of a cowardly fan. Manchester United captain Harry Maguire was defiant as he reportedly insisted he would not be forced out of the club despite a bomb alert at his Cheshire home. Cheshire police with police dogs have been dispatched to the England star's villa where he lives with his fiancé Fern Hawkins (left) and their two daughters Concerns have been raised for the safety of the player and his family and they are said to be extremely shaken by the threat be. Ralf Rangnick's side are set to play Arsenal in the Emirates at 12:30pm on Saturday and Maguire is expected to be part of the squad to keep their top four hopes alive. The source, speaking to The Sun, continued: "It's really upset them but they're all doing fine. Nothing is more important than the safety of his family and Harry will do whatever it takes to ensure that. The England international and his family are said to be extremely shocked by the threat. The Red Devils are suffering from poor form, with just one win in their last five games - against bottom Norwich - and have slipped to sixth in the Premier League. Although the entire team played inexcusably in Tuesday's Anfield shocker, criticism of Maguire appeared to be reaching a fever pitch after his pathetic performances throughout the season. The incident came just days after the Red Devils' humiliating defeat by Liverpool. As captain, Maguire has taken the brunt of the criticism this season and following this week's defeat, angry fans savaged the England international by trending #MaguireOut on Twitter. Maguire and the rest of the United squad regularly receive death threats on social media, but this latest one is said to be taken very seriously.

The journalist couldn't understand why Newcastle fans support Eddie Howe and consider Steve Bruce a 'tactically inept cabbage'.

Newcastle fans back Eddie Howe and consider Steve Bruce a 'tactically inept cabbage' - journalist couldn't understand why. (Author: Gardener)

Eddie HoweOn November 8, 2021, Newcastle fans saw Eddie Howe confirmed as the new head coach. The new NUFC team boss made an immediate positive impression when he and his coaching staff showed up at the training ground before 7am to begin the grand task of turning things around. Eddie Howe inherits a total mess from Steve Bruce, the former head coach, someone who was definitely not seen at the training ground in the early hours, if at all... I was amused to come across something posted on Twitter by Sam Street, who describes himself as a “sportswriter and Watford FC fan” in his Twitter bio. As you can see, 'sportswriter and Watford FC fan' Sam Street posted this on 19th December 2021, just after Man City beat Newcastle United 4-0 at St James Park. Coming back to his "succinct" take on the situation... "I'm not sure what Eddie Howe did to get that support from Newcastle fans while Steve Bruce was getting a "tactically inept cabbage". Well, Newcastle- Fans had seen Steve Bruce's extreme limitations as manager/head coach up close over the course of two decades and then two years and three months, which very much confirmed what we were led to believe watching from afar. As for Eddie Howe, Newcastle fans fully understand the shocking state in which Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce left the club as new owners and head coaches attempted to turn things around in both the long and short term. The thing is, when you support a team and watch every game, you know a lot more than a "sportswriter and Watford FC fan" who suddenly decides to teach others something he doesn't know about. Eddie Howe's very first game saw a very different team performance for Newcastle fans. This was a pattern that continued, a decent performance at Arsenal saw officials' decisions against NUFC and a 2-0 loss was the result, but then a home win against Norwich was ruled out due to another individual disaster with Ciaran Clark being sent off and denied A competitive 1-1 draw followed. A convincing performance and a 1-0 win over Burnley followed in Eddie Howe's fourth game before three straight defeats. Yes, the goals were painful, but thanks to Eddie Howe and referee/VAR decisions against NUFC, positive results were still to be seen, as well as still individual errors that undermined the new head coach. All in all, Newcastle fans, those who follow the games, could see that while the results weren't great, it was clearly an underlying improvement that WOULD lead to better results once a bit of luck and refereeing came our way, plus a chance in January to bring in key signings that should have come over the course of the previous year and two windows in which Mike Ashley only allowed one player to sign. Over the course of a full 38-game season, that form would get you 76 points, last season (2021/22) would have put you second behind Man City who won the Premier League by 86 points. It wasn't just blind faith in Eddie Howe, Newcastle fans had recognized that beneath the surface he was improving things and that eventually the results would improve. It's ridiculous and embarrassing when the media only judges things on results and often only a small selection of them, in football there are often such small margins and a decision or a mistake can so often prove decisive, or just luck not available not there. Message to the journalist Sam Street, focus on what you know about and that's not the Newcastle fans and our (once again) great football club.

KlinsmannJürgen Klinsmann, head of S.'s men's national team, says Christian Pulisic has grown "so much" in recent years that the winger is now looking forward to his first World Cup. Klinsmann handed Pulisic his first USMNT cap in 2016, making the then 17-year-old winger the youngest American to ever play in a World Cup qualifier. "I think he did a fantastic job," said Klinsmann. "Christian, over the years you saw how he matured, how he took on more and more responsibility on and off the pitch." What he went through at 17 is just wonderful. The squad there is basically two national teams of 22 players who fight this battle every day in training and then hope to start at the weekend or maybe come off the bench with players who are just top quality players. "I think he's had an amazing process over the last few years and he's definitely the US national team's leading figure going forward and he's been for the last two or three years." Also, Klinsmann, himself a former forward, witnessed the move to the Bundesliga with Ricardo Pepi. Pepi is struggling to adjust to life in Augsburg with the 19-year-old striker yet to score as the club try to avoid relegation. But Klinsmann continues to preach patience to the young striker as he seeks to cement his role for club and country. "Ricardo took that risk and kind of jumped in at the deep end and now he's started swimming," said Klinsmann. "I was often asked: 'Was that the right club?' He's playing at a club that's fighting relegation, so probably from a more defensive structure because they can't afford to lose the game and have to fight for every single one." Point. You don't get that many scoring chances when you're on the field as a centre-forward, so very few chances, very little time to prove yourself, but it's a huge learning curve he's going through and so it's going to be easy to take Time. "So what you can tell him is just take it one day at a time. Just take every training session 100% seriously and prove your point to the manager, the coach and then when you get your chance to be on the field, make the most of it. During his time as USMNT boss, Klinsmann was a strong advocate for American players going abroad to test themselves, which at times caused controversy with his views on the progress of American football. And in recent years, Americans have indeed tested themselves in the way Klinsmann envisioned them, with USMNT stars playing for clubs like Chelsea, Juventus, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig as long as they keep going test." "There's nothing wrong with American players going abroad and maybe it doesn't work out the way they imagine it," he said, "if it doesn't work out, come back and play in MLS, which has grown wonderful, as we all know now, for more than 25 years, with new teams, wonderful infrastructure, great stadiums and all that stuff. “It will always be a challenge for any American player to go overseas and prove their point. And sometimes it works right away and sometimes it just takes longer. In Ricardo's case it could just take longer and I think the talent is there and the skills are there. He has a good attitude, is very popular at the club and he just has to be patient."
