Perez on pole for the Saudi Arabian GP the day after a nearby attack

Sergio Perez clinched his first career pole position at the Saudi Arabian Grand as F1 resumed under close scrutiny on Saturday, the day after an attack on a nearby oil depot. Perez edgy (Author: Gardener)

PerezSergio Perez clinched his first career pole position at the Saudi Arabian Grand as F1 resumed under close scrutiny on Saturday, the day after an attack on a nearby oil depot. Perez edged out the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr on his final lap, edging his own Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen - the world champion - into fourth place. All day the focus was on why F1 was racing so close to the bombed out, smoky depot some 11 kilometers (seven miles) from the track. Sainz Jr agreed with the decision to race but said the matter will not go away once the F1 globe trots to Australia and then Europe. "After this race there will have to be discussions," said the Spaniard. "Because what happened in the last 24 hours is definitely a point of discussion." Lewis Hamilton is usually so open about human rights and other important issues. But this time he said little about the collective decision to race - which followed hours of discussion on Friday night - other than that he was desperate to go home. Together as a group, we all discussed as a sport and made a decision," Hamilton said. The seven-time world champion Hamilton is the Formula 1 record holder with 103 pole positions and 103 victories, but delivered one of his worst qualifying performances of all time in 16th place. A violent accident occurred during the second part of qualifying when Mick Schumacher spun his Haas car and slid backwards into a wall on the sinewy Jiddah track, sending out a red flag. Haas team boss Günther Steiner said he could stay overnight as a precaution and would not compete. He's in the hospital right now being checked out by the doctors, so he's in good hands," Steiner said. However, most of Saturday's talk was not about racing. Earlier in the day, team bosses insisted it was safe to continue in Jeddah after late-night meetings with security and government officials following the nearby attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels. They explained the situation,” said Aston Martin's Mike Krack. Williams boss Jost Capito said an independent observer offered further reassurance on the spot," Capito said, without revealing who it was. Talks between drivers, team bosses and F1 boss Stefano Domenicali focused on safety conditions. All 20 drivers continued to speak after 2am to discuss safety concerns. “We don't really want to go into detail about what we discussed there. It was more about coming together as drivers. Because it was a difficult moment, to say the least," he said. Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto said the decision to continue was the right one. But the team bosses also said that no driver or team member would have been dissuaded from leaving. In an earlier one Statement said F1 and the FIA justified racing "after discussions with all teams and drivers".The Houthis acknowledged the attacks on Friday night and Saudi Arabian state television called it a "hostile operation".Jiddah's oil depot went under during the ablaze in a rocket attack during first practice sessions on Friday.Hamilton and other drivers previously expressed concerns about racing in the region, mainly in relation to Saudi Arabia's human rights record. The attack targeted the North Jiddah bulk plant, the same tank terminal that the Houthis had attacked five days earlier The facility stores diesel, petrol and jet fuel for use in the kingdom's second largest city. A Saudi-led coalition fighting Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen has unleashed a barrage of air strikes on the Yemeni capital and a strategic Red Sea city, officials said on Saturday. Night air raids on Sana'a and Hodeidah - both held by the Houthis - responded to the attack at Jeddah. Following the inaugural race last December, the circuit is hosting an F1 race for the second time. With Ferrari's Leclerc leading Practice 3 to make it a win and Hamilton a low 11th as a sign of things to come, qualifying got underway at 8pm. Local time with floodlights. Hamilton found himself in the rare situation of being eliminated from Q1, the first part of qualifying. “The car was just undriveable, so nervous. I kept losing the back end of the car," said Hamilton, who said he chose the wrong setup. After Schumacher crashed in Q2 with five minutes to go, it took about an hour for the session to resume. Leclerc watched a second straight pole after winning the season-opening Bahrain GP last Sunday but missed an 11th career pole by 0.025s on a slippery street circuit that Perez described as "definitely the most dangerous place on the calendar".

Sergio Perez stormed to a stunning first pole position under floodlights in a crash-interrupted qualifying session at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver gave up his best at the end as he lapped the 6.1km Jeddah Corniche Circuit on the shores of the Red Sea in one minute and 28.200 seconds, avoiding a Ferrari lockout for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in the first refuse row. World champion Max Verstappen finished fourth. "What a lap, unbelievable," said Perez, who overtook Leclerc by just 0.025 seconds, after the session. "I can do a thousand laps and I don't think I can beat that lap." We didn't really expect to be able to keep up with the Ferraris in qualifying. Hopefully we beat them tomorrow," added the 32-year-old, who has two F1 career wins to his name. Saturday's session centered around the challenging Jeddah layout, which mainly consists of high-speed blind sweeps and full-throttle straights, was punctuated by two red flags. Mick Schumacher crashed heavily in the second stage of qualifying, bringing the session to a halt for almost an hour Succumb while track workers repaired barriers and cleared the track of dirt and oil. The German Haas driver, who appeared to have no injuries, followed an initial examination at the track was taken to a military hospital in Jeddah for precautionary checks, the ruling FIA said. The Briton, last year's winner in Saudi Arabia, will start Sunday's race in 16th place in his Mercedes. Fortunately, Schumacher is believed not to have sustained any physical injuries after colliding with a concrete barrier at 170mph, but he was nonetheless taken to hospital for precautionary checks. 19:30 , Tom Kershaw The first Mexican rider on pole! 👊— Formula 1 (@F1) March 26, 2022 19:22, Tom Kershaw Carlos Sainz: “The lap for P3 was pretty good. So we will play around with strategy and passes, which should make for an exciting race.” 19:22, Tom Kershaw Charles Leclerc: “The lap felt good, honestly. The entire qualifying session was about staying on track and not making any mistakes that would have cost us dearly. “Then I just accelerated in Q3 on the second lap. I pretty much put everything together, there was a bit here and there. “I definitely didn't expect Checo to come up with this lap time, congratulations to him. I'm sure he did an incredible job today.” 19:21, Tom Kershaw Sergio Perez: “What a lap. I can do 1,000 laps and I don't think I can beat that lap, it was amazing. "We didn't really expect too much from qualifying, we were mainly concentrating on the race so hopefully we'll get [the Ferraris] tomorrow." 19:18 , Tom Kershaw What a perfectly balanced race for tomorrow. Sergio Perez is the somewhat surprising starter on pole, while Max Verstappen will have to fight through both Ferraris to fight for victory. 19:15 , Tom Kershaw Here's how the top 10 ended in full: 19:10 , Tom Kershaw What a round from Sergio Perez! This is the first time in his F1 career that he has taken pole after 215 race starts. 19:08 , Tom Kershaw Perez takes pole! Verstappen cannot beat the two Ferraris and will start fourth. 19:07 , Tom Kershaw However, there is still a battle between the two Ferraris and Leclerc snatches pole from his teammate. He shortened Sainz's time by almost two tenths of a second. 19:05 , Tom Kershaw With just two minutes to go and looks set to be a Ferrari one-two. 19:03 , Tom Kershaw George Russell is of course the only remaining Mercedes. 19:01 , Tom Kershaw A very poor first second from Verstappen and he's sixth. 19:00 , Tom Kershaw The Ferraris set standards. Sainz beats Leclerc by four hundredths of a second. 18:56 , Tom Kershaw Q3 running! 18:50 , Tom Kershaw Magnussen and Ocon both jump out of the elimination zone on their final laps! Russell is just tenth driver into the final session while Sainz sets the new fastest time of the session to ensure Ferrari's streak in practice and qualifying continues. 18:47, Tom Kershaw It looks like Leclerc is just ahead of the two Red Bulls. In the elimination zone they are: Zhou, Ricciardo, Magnussen, Stroll and Ocon. 18:41 , Tom Kershaw With the debris cleared and the track thoroughly cleaned, qualifying has now resumed. 18:40 , Tom Kershaw The FIA has also confirmed that Schumacher "did not suffer any injuries". "The FIA announces that during qualifying for the 2022 FIA Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix today 03/26/22 an incident occurred involving a car #47, Mick Schumacher", said in a statement. 6:32 p.m., Tom Kershaw Haas team boss Günther Steiner: “I spoke to his mother and kept her up to date. The impact destroyed the digital [technology] so we didn't hear anything [on the radio] but we were told he was conscious.” 18:28 , Tom Kershaw Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has also confirmed that it was Mick Schumacher fortunately doing well after this fall. 18:19 , Tom Kershaw The Haas team has said Mick Schumacher appears to be physically fine but is being taken to the hospital for a scan as a precaution. 18:14 , Tom Kershaw Max Verstappen has gotten back into his Red Bull, suggesting a restart might not be too far away. 18:14 , Tom Kershaw The race director is on his way to inspect the track where they have done their best to clear all the debris. 18:00 , Tom Kershaw Hamilton was interviewed shortly after the crash and understandably focused more on Schumacher's condition. Regarding his own failure to make Q2 for the first time since 2017, the seven-time world champion says: “I just had problems with the balance of the car. Unfortunately went wrong with setup.” 17:59 , Tom Kershaw The ambulance has arrived at the medical center. 17:57 , Tom Kershaw They are now removing Schumacher's Haas car from the track. The rear is so badly damaged that the car almost completely breaks in two behind the cockpit when you pull it up. 17:53 , Tom Kershaw Mick Schumacher has now been flown out of the car and is being taken away by ambulance. 5:49 p.m., Tom Kershaw There is great concern for Mick Schumacher, who has remained in the cockpit since the crash. 17:47 , Tom Kershaw The Haas driver crashed into the concrete barrier at Turn 10, where he is believed to have been driving at about 170 mph. The car is badly damaged and there is a lot of debris to clear. 17:42, Tom Kershaw That's a good lap from Mick Schumacher, but he's quickly blown off the lead by Charles Leclerc. The winner in Bahrain takes the lead with a time of 1:28:883. He is just ahead of Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen. Carlos Sainz is fourth and Fernando Alonso completes the top five as they stand. 17:40 , Tom Kershaw The two Haas cars lead the drivers back out of the pits. Mercedes say they are not sure why there was such a big difference between his performance and Hamilton's. 17:36 , Tom Kershaw This is how the rest of the drivers ended in Q1 as Ferrari once again led the field, although this time it was Carlos Sainz who topped the standings, not his teammate Charles Leclerc. 17:30 , Tom Kershaw Lewis Hamilton is out! He briefly escaped safety on his last lap, but Stroll is behind him on new soft tires and reclaims last place to go into Q2. Russell in the other Mercedes is fourth and was 0.7 seconds faster. 17:27 , Tom Kershaw Elsewhere, Bottas is in fifth place. 17:25, Tom Kershaw Hamilton has less than three minutes to escape from the bottom five. He's a tenth of a second behind Lance Stroll, who just pulled out of the pits on new tyres. 17:23 , Tom Kershaw An impressive lap from Russell who finishes fourth in this suffering Mercedes car. 17:22 , Tom Kershaw Wow! Carlos Sainz drives a breathtaking lap time. He is almost five tenths of a second faster than Verstappen. Leclerc can't beat his teammate but beats the Red Bull to finish second. 17:20, Tom Kershaw We're back on track and Verstappen is blowing away Magnussen's lap time. He's over a second and a half faster. 17:12 , Tom Kershaw That was a hard impact as the Williams car hit two barriers. It's bad timing for the two Ferraris who were just approaching the finish line and would likely have the edge. Instead, these lap times are given up. The Red Bulls haven't set a time yet either. 17:10, Tom Kershaw "I don't know how the rear just lets go of that," he says. 17:10 , Tom Kershaw The two Haas cars take the lead early in Q1, with Kevin Magnussen a tenth quicker than teammate Mick Schumacher. 17:06 , Tom Kershaw A terrible start for Lewis Hamilton who runs on medium tires and made mistakes on Turns 1, 2 and 4. He's really struggling with that Mercedes car and might have a fight just to make it to the second period. The drivers are making their final preparations and qualifying will begin shortly. Will it be Red Bull or Ferrari? 16:46 , Tom Kershaw Kevin Magnussen, who abruptly replaced Nikita Mazepin at Haas ahead of the season-opening race, has made an impressive comeback to the track. The Dane finished fifth in Bahrain and finished eighth in the final practice session this afternoon despite having no racing experience in Saudi Arabia last season. Paul di Resta believes Magnussen's return has put pressure on Haas teammate Mick Schumacher, who is still awaiting his first point in F1. "It's a great benchmark for Mick Schumacher to see how good Kevin is," said Di Resta. "We all talk about the Schumacher name in Formula 1, is Mick the next thing to come out of that? Well he has to go and beat Kevin which is a tall order.” 16:34 , Tom Kershaw Toto Wolff has given little hope that Mercedes is close to finding a solution to the lack of pace that emerged in the final practice session earlier on Showed again in the afternoon when Lewis Hamilton was only able to set the eleventh fastest lap, leaving him almost a full second behind Charles Leclerc. “I think we have to see how we do in qualifying. Then we can evaluate where the deficit comes from,” said the Mercedes team boss. In qualifying the picture could be a bit different.” 16:30 , Tom Kershaw The drivers, despite safety concerns after a rocket attack on an oil facility less than 10 miles from the circuit, were finally persuaded to go ahead with the race schedule as planned. Worryingly, the BBC claims that one of the factors in the decision to go ahead with the Grand Prix was "the potential consequences of not racing, such as how easily teams and drivers could leave the country if the race did not take place". 16:15 , Tom Kershaw Gordon Ramsey keeping an eye on qualifying this afternoon. The cars will be on the track in 45 minutes. 16:01 , Tom Kershaw Mick Schumacher says he will speak to all the top teams when his contract expires at the end of the year. Schumacher signed a two-season deal with Haas in 2021 and had an impressive rookie season. He started the 2022 season brilliantly with an 11th place finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix, his highest finish in an F1 car. He's also a Ferrari reserve driver this season, but with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz the future of the team may be Schumacher. If he wants to leave Haas, he'll have to look elsewhere. "Of course it's important to talk to every top team," said Schumacher. The rest will come from that.” Schumacher was outshone by Haas teammate Kevin Magnussen in Bahrain as he secured a fifth place finish. But former F1 driver Christian Danner believes competition is the best thing that can happen to Schumacher. "Magnussen is a stroke of luck for Mick," he told the Bild newspaper. It's his last year of contract and he needs to step up. "Mick has been fighting for a new contract since Bahrain and Magnussen is helping him with that." 15:54 , Tom Kershaw Nico Hulkenburg is hoping he can use this weekend's racing to prove to the teams that he deserves another full-time start . The German, who has started 180 races and scored 521 points over the course of his F1 career, is again deputizing for Sebastian Vettel, who is still recovering from Covid. "Yes, of course, if a good opportunity arises," said the Aston Martin reserve driver. “I'm definitely ready for that as I've been away and wrecked Bahrain with the qualifying frenzy, the excitement of the race and the first lap battle. "A lot of great things happen in Formula 1 and Formula 1. It's obviously a lot of fun when the opportunity presents itself, but it's not an easy task." There were few encouraging signs in final practice, however, when Hulkenburg took the 18th place. 15:36 , Tom Kershaw 15:36 , Tom Kershaw Charles Leclerc sets the pace in final practice as Lewis Hamilton struggles 15:24 , Tom Kershaw fastest in FP1, FP2 and now in FP3 @Charles_Leclerc looks ahead to qualifying #SaudiArabianGP # F1 doing well pic.twitter.com/4swsBua1t5— Formula 1 (@F1) March 26, 2022 15:11 , Tom Kershaw So the final practice session is coming to an end and just like the previous two sessions Ferrari are in the lead. However, Max Verstappen looked set to beat Charles Leclerc's time until a late error on his lap, which will give some encouragement to the world champion. It looks far from certain that there will be another shootout between Red Bull and Ferrari when qualifying starts later in the afternoon. 15:06 , Tom Kershaw George Russell has fared no better than teammate Lewis Hamilton. He is in 14th place while Hamilton has also been knocked out of the top 10. 15:04 , Tom Kershaw Charles Leclerc has just set the fastest lap, overtaking Max Verstappen by just 0.033 seconds. However, the World Champion is now back on track after being forced to abandon his last flying lap when he went too far at Turn 22 a few minutes ago. Verstappen at the limit, goes too far at turn 22 and aborts his flying lap# SaudiArabianGP #F1 pic.twitter.com/BnYR5Y2dp7—Formula 1 (@F1) March 26, 2022 2:56pm, Tom Kershaw Final practice in Jeddah is underway and there are few positive signs for Lewis Hamilton. His fastest lap to date has taken him way down to 10th, almost a full second behind Max Verstappen. 14:51 , Tom Kershaw There is one notable absentee from this latest practice. Sebastian Vettel is yet to fully recover from Covid after also missing the season opener in Bahrain. The four-time world champion is again replaced by Aston Martin's reserve driver Nico Hulkenberg. A statement from Aston Martin read: "Nico Hulkenberg will train, qualify and race alongside Lance Stroll. Despite the lack of mileage in the Aston Martin R22, Nico did well in Bahrain and we're sure he'll be able to do the same in Jeddah. We expect Sebastian Vettel to be fit for the Australian Grand Prix Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. “Certainly they are still concerned but they have listened to the reassurances we have given them and they understand the importance of staying here and trying to race because that is the best choice that is we can meet. Leaving the country would not have been the right choice. "We were all undoubtedly concerned because it's not a normal situation for something like this to happen so close to the circuit." But we've had reassurances from F1, the Saudi government and security agencies that everything is safe and it must be explained to drivers. “It was important for them to meet, discuss and raise their voices. They are the stars of the sport and it's important to listen to them. "And while negative comments aren't great, the fact that they met and had the opportunity to argue and listen and gain reassurance was important and positive." 14:32 , Tom Kershaw Welcome to The live coverage Independent on the final practice session and qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. After a four-hour meeting last night during which drivers raised their safety concerns after Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for a missile attack on an oil facility less than 10 miles from the circuit, F1 officials decided that the race should go ahead anyway will be held. "We are aware of the attack on the Aramco distribution station in Jeddah this afternoon and are staying in touch with Saudi security authorities as well as F1 and the FIA to ensure that all necessary security measures continue to be implemented to ensure the safety of all visitors to the Formula -1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, as well as the drivers, teams and stakeholders," it said in a statement. “The schedule for the race weekend will continue as planned. The safety of all our guests remains our top priority and we look forward to welcoming fans to a weekend of world-class racing and entertainment.”

Russell is the only rider on medium tires.

"That evening I pulled up my car next to the bus stop and offered him some money so he could get a hotel or something to eat." When Styles asked if he could get him something to eat, he asked for some edamame beans, which he felt was a "kinda weird request." 'What a hypocrite!' BBC viewers slam Shapps over calls for P&O chief's resignation

Grant Shapps called the P&O chief "insolent" and "arrogant" after the multimillionaire owner admitted he "chose" to break the law by firing 800 employees without notice. When Shapps asked Hebblethwaite to step down at BBC Breakfast and slammed him for not following the necessary procedures, viewers became furious that Shapps had previously defended Boris Johnson's government after it was discovered he had broken several laws related to bans. "I think he should go," Shapps told Derbyshire on Friday's BBC Breakfast. 'He should resign?' Derbyshire asked the Transport Secretary. "He should," he replied, adding: "The idea that you come into Parliament, you admit that you are breaking the law on purpose - so it's not an accident or a mistake - to sack your staff." and bring in people below minimum wage and buying the staff to do that is just plain unacceptable behavior." Derbyshire asked Shapps: "Then what are you going to do? because it intersects with international law of the sea, with domestic law, labor law, law of the sea," he replied. "So there's about eight different actions that we're going to take." I'm afraid P&O got itself in a bloody mess, here - they will have to turn around, they will re-employ people at minimum wages." Kanye West banned from Instagram for 24 hours after attacking Trevor Noah

Kanye West has been suspended from Instagram after racially insulting Trevor Noah. (Author: Gardener)

Kanye WestKanye West, 44, will not be on Instagram for 24 hours. The rapper was suspended from the social media platform by his parent company Meta on Wednesday, March 16, following a post targeting Trevor Noah. The post quoted "Kumbaya, My Lord" but changed the lyrics to include a racial slur against the South African host. Meta of Mark Zuckerberg (formerly known as Facebook) confirmed the suspension to TMZ, citing a violation of their policies on hate speech, harassment and bullying - adding that they will take further action if the violations continue. The suspension means Kanye can't do anything he normally can on Instagram, including posting, liking, commenting, or even DMing other people. Remarkably, Meta rarely makes this move — but they've done it with Donald Trump in the past. The targeted post came after Trevor opened up about Kimye's controversial breakup on The Daily Show. "The weird thing about the situation is that Kanye West has told us he's been struggling with his mental health," he said on his daily Comedy Central series. But here's something weird that Kanye doesn't understand. It's like what we're seeing - it makes you uncomfortable," said the 38-year-old. Trevor Noah On The Kanye West And Kim Kardashian Online Battle For Kim Dating Pete Davidson. "With Kanye, we don't know how to feel. We don't know how to worry. I don't think Kanye seems to get that. He says, "Let me create my art." Yeah, but Kanye, you told us you were struggling. If we're worried about it, say we shouldn't be worried because it's not [his] problem. he asked, seemingly referring to Yes's video "Eazy," in which he buries an animated Pete Davidson, 28. Pete has been the main target of Kanye's ongoing social media posts as his romance with Kim Kardashian progresses Just last weekend, Kanye said he was "antagonized" by the SNL cast member with a photo of Pete allegedly "in bed" with Kim, in the texts shared between Pete and Ye via Pete's boyfriend Dave Sirus were present, the photo was present along with text stating that he was "in bed with your wife". Pete also offered to help Kanye get psychological support if he wishes. Noah referenced his Also monologues Kim. Kim likes publicity. Kim gets harassed too. "I see a woman who wants to live her life without being harassed," he said on air. Trevor also responded to Kanye's racist slur post with a lengthy Instagram caption , the appar has been deleted. "There are few artists who have influenced me more than you, Ye. They took samples and turned them into symphonies. You took your pain and turned it into performance perfection through the wire. “You are an indelible part of my life, Ye. That's why it breaks my heart to see you like this. I don't care if you support Trump, and I don't care if you roast Pete. Never forget, the biggest trick racists ever played on black people was teaching us to take away our blackness when we disagreed. He made us split into shards so we would never unite into one mighty staff," he said in reference to the insult.

Add an extra layer of online security

Two-factor authenticator apps serve many purposes. Here are the best currently available (Author: Gardener)

TwoTwo-factor authentication (2FA) has had its day and has become the standard for online security protection. 2FA is a digital authentication method that adds another layer of security when a user tries to log into a website or app. For example, instead of just requiring a password to gain access to an account, you might now need different credentials. Second forms of authentication through 2FA take many forms such as B. Hardware tokens such as fobs, SMS text messages and voice-based 2FA, as well as push notifications. Authentication apps offer yet another type of 2FA – software tokens. These are auto-generated one-time passwords (OTP) that expire within 30 seconds. This short timeframe makes it nearly impossible for hackers to snag someone else's second credentials and use them before becoming inactive forever. These codes are generated using a standard HMAC-based One-Time Password (HOTP) algorithm developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). However, the IETF never gets access to the codes. The best authentication apps are available on different platforms, with most seen on Android and Apple devices, while others can also be accessed through Windows and Mac computers. However, out of the dozens of authentication apps available today, only a few are worth considering, including the ones mentioned below. Undoubtedly, one of the easiest ways to start using 2FA is to use your smartphone's camera and scan a QR code provided by the company or website. Once you've done that, the authenticator app gets to work by issuing an ever-changing unique code. This code is only valid for a few seconds as a second form of identification before the authenticator app updates it. You only need to scan the QR code once on a device. If you use sync and backup (like many of the apps below), you probably won't need to scan a QR code on another device during setup. 2FA, like any other form of online security, is not 100% secure. Despite its imperfections, 2FA still offers better protection than just passwords. One of the most impressive authenticator apps on this list, the aptly named Authenticator app from 2Stable offers a mix of great features. This includes biometric authentication, a sync and backup option, and full encryption for any 2FA content you choose to store seamlessly on Apple's iCloud service. It's also one of the easiest authentication apps out there. 2Stable's authenticator app is free for anyone who just wants to save a 2FA account or two. You can keep content across the company's iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch apps, and take advantage of family sharing, widgets, end-to-end encryption, and more. However, the freebie option does not include backup and syncing. $10 a year unlocks all features, including unlimited accounts and the ability to sync content across platforms. 2Stable also offers the Freemium Photo Vault app, which allows you to store your photos and videos and protect them from outside threats. It is available in the App Store. * 2Stable's authenticator app is available for Mac and other Apple devices. Authy is one of the few authentication apps offered for Windows, Mac, Android, and Apple devices including the Apple Watch. This makes it an ideal solution for anyone who uses an interesting mix of devices (Windows PC, iPhone; Mac, Android) in their daily life. With a free Authy account, you get 100 authentications per month and free support. Perhaps oddly, Authy requires a phone number to set up a new account, which feels a little intrusive. Still, Authy offers a lot of great 2FA features, including secure cloud backup. Authy's app is easy to use, although it could use a design update. For added security, you can protect your Authy account with Touch ID, PIN protection, and passwords. * Authy by Twilio is available for multiple platforms including Windows, Mac, Android and Apple devices. The most enterprise-friendly 2FA authenticator on our list, Duo Mobile is now part of Cisco. As such, it offers developers essential features like multi-user deployment. For end users, Duo Mobile covers all the bases by offering simple one-tap authentication. It also includes Duo Restore, which lets you back up Duo-protected accounts with relative ease and then restore them to new computers. Duo Mobile is free for up to 10 accounts. * Duo Mobile is available for Android and Apple devices. Everyone else can say hello to the world's simplest and most basic authentication app. With Google Authenticator, you can quickly add an account and use it however you want. It also lacks certain options, including online backups and an Apple Watch app. If you are an Android user, it is probably advisable to skip Google Authenticator and use the tools available in the operating system on your mobile device. For everyone else, Google Authenticator works and is free. * Google Authenticator is available on multiple platforms including Chrome, Android and Apple devices. You may already be familiar with the LastPass password app, which is very popular on various platforms. LastPass Authenticator is a small extension of that and it's free. Like similar options, LastPass Authenticator supports six-digit generated passwords alongside SMS codes and automated push notifications. To enable the app's backup feature, you'll need to sign up for a free LastPass account. Once you do this, LastPass Authenticator will work more smoothly, regardless of the device. If you're already a LastPass customer (with a free or paid account), it makes sense to use LastPass authentication. It works anywhere Google Authenticator is accepted. * You can find LastPass Authenticator for Windows, Android, and Apple devices. It's probably a tight tie as to which authenticator app is used the most in the wild, Google's or this, Microsoft Authenticator. Microsoft Authenticator provides 2FA through phone sign-in or code generation. The Microsoft Authenticator app is free to use on all platforms. However, I suggest not to use this with iPhone and Android as the backup process is a bit shaky since the iOS version uses iCloud for backup purposes. Unsurprisingly, iCloud is not accessible to Android users. * You can use Microsoft Authenticator on Android and Apple devices. Step Two is another authentication app that is only available on Apple devices. In this case iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. Like Duo Mobile, you can add up to 10 accounts for free. With iCloud integration, your accounts are synced across all your devices. For a one-time purchase of $10, you can use Step Two unlimitedly. The creator, Neil Sardesai, has taken the time to develop an authenticator app that will stand out and be pleasant to use regardless of the device. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about other authentication apps like Authy, which need an overhaul. * Step Two is available on Apple devices including Mac and mobile. TOTP Authenticator is available on Android and Apple devices and offers similar features as the above solutions but with some extras. As part of a premium membership (a one-time fee of $5.99), you can unlock a Chrome browser extension that makes using the auto-generated codes easier. You also get cloud syncing (via Google Drive) with a premium account, a feature that's free with other apps. If you're using a free account, you can still export content from the app for use elsewhere. * TOTP Authenticator is currently available on Android and Apple devices.
