Athletic BilbaoSevilla lost Real Madrid's La Liga lead following Monday's 1-0 win in Cadiz, while Oihan Sancet scored a hat trick for Athletic Bilbao. Lucas Ocampo's goal in the second half helped bring Sevilla one game in hand to five points against Real. Madrid gave Sevilla a chance to step up the title race after Carlo Ancelotti's side lost at Getafe on Sunday, a defeat that ended an unbeaten streak of 15 games across all competitions. Ocampos broke through the packed defense of Cadiz in the 58th minute. Ivan Romero controlled a loose ball in the penalty area and allowed a pass to Ivan Rakitic, who used Ocampos to score from an angle with a touch. In third place, Sevilla have made up eight points behind Real Betis. Athletic Bilbao midfielder Sancet scored three goals and led his side to a 3-1 win in Osasuna. His triple came after scoring his first goal of the season in a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid before the winter break. Levante remains without a win in all 19 league games and has eight points ahead of safety. Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain made it to the last 16 of the French Cup after Kylian Mbappe gave them a second-half hat-trick in the second half after the start of Presnel Kimpembe, which gave them a 4-0 win at fourth division Vannes on Monday. Home goalkeepers Clement Petrel saved Ander Herrera and Georginio Wijnaldum with fine saves, before central defender Kimpembe gave the visitors the lead with a header from close range in the 28th minute. Mbappe, who had a quiet first half, doubled their lead in the 59th minute after walking past his markers on Kimpembe's pass and defeating Petrel. Mbappe's 71st-minute goal was out of luck, however, as it unleashed a bolt of lightning into the top corner for the first time from the edge of the box after a good job by 18-year-old Xavi Simons. Mbappe completed his hat trick five minutes later with a simple knock from close range into an empty net after a one-two with substitute Eric Ebimbe. Edouard Michut, another 18-year-old contender who received the nod from Pochettino, rattled the bar before Petrel made another good save to beat Ebimbe in the closing stages. The home side missed a golden chance for consolation in stoppage time when PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma blocked Jordan Henry's shot at the back post at close range.

Real Madrid give up signing the Chelsea star after turning down a key demand

Real Madrid reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Chelsea center-back Antonio Rudiger. The 28-year-old will leave the contract at the end of the season ... (Author: Gardener)

ChelseaReal Madrid reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Chelsea center-back Antonio Rudiger. The 28-year-old will be out of the contract at the end of the season and talks about a new deal with Chelsea have stalled. Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Juventus have all started talks to sign Rüdiger on a free transfer this summer. However, according to Marca, Madrid have already given up signing the Germany international as he is demanding a £ 200,000 per week contract. The report claims Madrid are unwilling to hit that number and believe their current defensive pairing of David Alaba and Eder Militao are the best in Europe. It is also alleged that Rüdiger has already spoken to several players from Madrid's squad about moving to the Spanish capital, but the club have not had discussions with the defender's agent. In a speech on Tuesday, Thomas Tuchel admitted that he was concerned that Chelsea Rüdiger could lose on a free transfer. "I can't predict the future," said the Chelsea coach when asked if he believed Rudiger would stay. “I don't know if his representatives have spoken to other clubs, if you know or assume, fair enough. “But as I understand it, we communicate with him, the association communicates with him, I assume that he is very aware of what I ask of him and that I appreciate working with him. "The point is very clear, my opinion is very clear, the club is doing its best, there is communications, not much has changed." Follow Metro Sport for the latest news

Real lead over the giant killer Alcoyano

Real Madrid are working hard to beat Alcoyano in the Copa del Rey in their last 32 and take revenge for last year's loss. (Author: Gardener)

AlcoyanoReal Madrid were forced to work hard for the second year in a row by Alcoyano in the Copa del Rey, but this time the Spanish giants won. On that occasion, Eder Militao took Carlo Ancelotti's side into the lead before Dani Vega scored a beautiful solo motor for Alcoyano. Marco Asensio scored after a pass from Eden Hazard and an own goal by 42-year-old goalkeeper Juan Jose sealed the win. Barcelona also needed a comeback earlier in the day to beat third division Linares 2-1.

Real MadridBorussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland is widely expected to leave the Bundesliga giant this summer, with a number of European hotshots interested in services. Among them are Real Madrid, Manchester City and Barcelona. The Catalan club are apparently hoping to lure the Norwegian away from their La Liga rivals in the Spanish capital. According to Marca, Joan Laporta has told Barca officials that despite strong interest elsewhere, he is confident of signing Haaland in the next transfer window. For now, they can't even register the newly signed Ferran Torres until the club sells a couple of different players. Of course, Barcelona also had to part ways with Lionel Messi because of the shocking financial situation. The 21-year-old has scored 53 goals in as many games for Dortmund and, alongside Kylian Mbappe, really seems to be the future of the sport. While Laporta and Barcelona keep their spirits high in Haaland's pursuit, Madrid cannot be ruled out. Barcelona could do this very well but the club would have to dump talent first. Needless to say, it will be very interesting who wins the Erling Haaland competition.

Barcelona and Real Madrid overcome fear of lower division teams and win the Copa del Rey

Dani Alves returned to the Barcelona team after signing in December (Author: Gardener)

BarcelonaThe big news in the game was Dani Alves' first appearance after returning to the club in six years. The 38-year-old right-back, who started the game as a winger, became the oldest player to appear in a competitive game for Barcelona on Wednesday, surpassing Jose Manuel Pinto by 54 days. Barca traveled to Andalusia missing several players due to COVID-19 and injuries, but manager Xavi Hernandez still decided to pause some key names for the round of 16 and fell behind after a Hugo Diaz header on the 19th minute. Xavi then brought in Frenkie de Jong, Gerard Pique and Ousmane Dembele in the second half, the French winger leveling off with a flat, long shot that goalkeeper Brimah Razak couldn't stop. A few minutes later, young academy striker Ferran Jutgla scored the winning goal after a counterattack from the corner of the box. "They came out very strong, maybe a little stronger than us." Barca joined Espanyol, Real Sociedad, Valencia, Real Betis, Rayo Vallecano, Mallorca and third division Atletico Baleares, who beat La Liga club Celta Vigo with a 2-1 win, as the first club to advance to the round of 16. Real Madrid advanced too, scoring two goals in two minutes of the second half to beat Alcoyano 3-1. Eder Militao headed his head in the first half, but the third division leveled off thanks to a great solo goal from Dani Vega. In the final 15 minutes, however, Real's bench was crucial when Marco Asensio came on on in the second half and scored before substitute Isco came on, creating enough uncertainty to result in a weird own goal that eventually went to goalkeeper Jose Juan went.

Alcoyano vs Real Madrid: predictions, odds & betting tips

Real Madrid have struggled to break a well-organized defense this season and could have a frustrating night against Alcoyano in the Copa del Rey (Author: Gardener)

Real MadridReal Madrid will face well-known opponents in the opening game of the Copa del Rey on Wednesday evening. Carlo Ancelotti's side take on a side from Alcoyano that they knocked out of the competition last season. The third division side from the Valencia region celebrated a famous 2-1 win in extra time last year and hope to make life difficult for Los Blancos again. The 13-time European champion comes into play after his first league defeat in three months at the weekend 1-0 against Getafe. Madrid costs 1/5 (1.20) with bet365 to get back on the winning road, while the game is offered at 6/1 (7.00) to go into overtime like 12 months ago. Alcoyano knocked out La Liga club Levante on penalties in the preliminary round and will be offered on Wednesday evening at 12:00 (1:00 p.m.) to win in 90 minutes. Carlo Ancelotti will likely use the game to give minutes to players who haven't played much in La Liga. With Karim Benzema released and Luka Jovic tested positive for coronavirus, it is likely that Mariano Diaz will lead the line for Los Blancos, and the 28-year-old stands from 7/2 (4.50) to open the rating. Los Blancos have struggled at times to break determined defensive teams this season and their 1-0 loss to Getafe at the weekend marked the fourth time they have drawn a gap in La Liga this season. Getafe, Cadiz, Osasuna and Villarreal have all managed to keep Madrid from scoring and while these teams are much more quality than Alcoyano, the hosts will have a blueprint on Wednesday night on how to frustrate Ancelotti's men. It might therefore be of interest to oppose a high-scoring game and while they are the most productive team in La Liga, they have scored fewer than 2.5 goals in six of Real Madrid's last seven games in all competitions.

Real Madrid have to pay € 35m for Merih ...

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Turkish defender Merih Demiral but it would cost a € 35m transfer fee to win the Juventus ace. (Author: Gardener)

Real MadridReal Madrid have their sights set on Juventus defender Merih Demiral, who is currently on loan to Atalanta, according to a report by El Nacional. However, the Merengues will have to spend 35 million euros to win the Turkish midfielder. The 23-year-old then signed with Sassuolo in January 2019 and was taken over by Juventus Turin six months later. After only 32 appearances in two years at the Allianz Stadium, the Turkish international moved to Atalanta on loan last summer. Since joining La Dea, Demiral has regained his best form and established himself as one of the most promising Serie A defenders. He made 19 appearances in all competitions and also contributed a few goals. His Bergamo resurgence has now caught the attention of Real Madrid, who are looking to add more bodies to their defensive contingent. The Spanish capital lost two of their defensive stars last year with Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, but only brought one replacement with David Alaba. As a result, Real Madrid are in the defensive reinforcement market, with a move from Chelsea's Antonio Rüdiger being heavily touted. However, given the Germany international's potential Free Agency status later this year and the number of clubs vying for his signing, Los Blancos would do well not to put all their eggs in one basket. To that end, Demiral has emerged as a potential alternative that Real Madrid are considering to bolster their defense. However, according to the report, the 23-year-old Turkish international could cost € 35m, which shouldn't be a big problem for the Merengues. It remains to be seen whether Demiral will make the jump to Spain in the summer or continue his stay in Italy, either at Juventus or Atalanta.

Paving the way for Mbappe, Isco's departure and what Real Madrid's January transfer window could look like

Real Madrid are primarily focused on signing Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer this summer, but that means sacking some big earners in January to make room on the French striker's payroll (Author: Gardener)

JanuaryReal Madrid's season under Carlo Ancelotti has gone better than even President Florentino Perez could reasonably have expected. Ancelotti has done more than that, giving Madrid a commanding lead at the top of the table as well as helping Brazilian starlet Vinicius Junior hit the form of his career. He also gets the last drop of juice out of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro in midfield and, thanks to Vinicius and the sovereign Karim Benzema, plays with vigor in the attack. David Alaba has been the head of the defense since his move from Bayern Munich, while the other newcomer, Eduardo Camavinga, hasn't had many chances to shine. Given Madrid's good start to the season, there aren't too many gaps to fill in January. It's a time of year when Madrid haven't been particularly keen to step up either in the past. Instead, they are focused on bringing Kylian Mbappe to Santiago Bernabeu from Paris-Saint Germain on a free summer transfer, much to the annoyance of the forward's current employers. When Madrid face PSG in the Champions League round of 16, they will take a close look at their primary transfer target. Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger is also a target, but he too would come to the end of his contract. Dani Carvajal was not in good shape after injury and Madrid are likely to regret the sale of Achraf Hakimi to Inter. Ajax's Noussair Mazraoui is out of contract this summer but Madrid may consider moving in January. On the other hand, Alvaro Odriozola is reviving his career on loan at Fiorentina and may get a second chance in the Spanish capital. Madrid want to get rid of a few players who are clearly not part of Ancelotti's plans. Spanish midfielder Isco's career has stalled at Madrid while Marcelo is now a strain on the pitch, although his quality in the attacking areas can still make him a good influence. The problem for Madrid is that these three players have been on sale for quite a while and nobody bites. Eden Hazard is another costly problem for Madrid and it seems Ancelotti is fed up with giving the Belgians chances. "He's ready to play but the problem is the manager prefers another player," said Los Blancos' manager in October. The only game Hazard played 90 minutes in this season was the frustrating 0-0 draw against Cadiz in mid-December. Meanwhile, striker Luka Jovic was on the verge of leaving Bernabeu, but the Serb is unlikely to leave in winter as he has recently covered well for Benzema. This could be his last chance to make it in Madrid. Isco is the main name that could be borrowed to give it a chance to play again and to free up some space on the payroll as well. Madrid would likely still have to pay part of their salary, however, as they earn around € 13m per season. Miguel Gutierrez has been on loan to Elche and it could be a good opportunity for the left-back to return to the first team with Ferland Mendy while both Alaba and Nacho Fernandez can cover that area. Center-back Jesus Vallejo could also hope for a chance to play elsewhere as he has only played one La Liga game this season and has been linked to Valencia and Newcastle United. Eder Militao's good form at Alaba's side has blocked any hopes he had of playing this season. Dani Ceballos made it back to the Madrid bench after an injury recently but could also be an option for the clubs to be loaned out as he faces Camavinga in the pecking order. Real Betis have been linked with a move to their former midfielder next summer. Real Madrid's main role in this area is to extend Luka Modric's stay at the Bernabeu. The 36-year-old's current contract expires in June 2022. The other players to drop out of contract this summer are the aforementioned veteran triumvirate Bale, Marcelo and Isco. Madrid have no fires to put out elsewhere as Benzema, Toni Kroos and Nacho all have 18 months left to fulfill their respective contracts. However, Marco Asensio is up for an extension in the coming months as Madrid refuse to lose him when his contract ends in June 2023. It is proof of the improved way in which Real has been run in recent years, with few personal or contractual problems to be solved.

Aston Villa among six Premier League clubs in the race to sign the Barcelona midfielder in the transfer window

Philippe Coutinho returns to the Premier League this weekend; Aston Villa is one of six English clubs in the running to sign the midfielder; Coutinho became Barcelona's club-record signing four years ago when he came from Liverpool for £ 146million but struggled to get into the Camp Nou. to make a name (Author: Gardener)

Aston VillaPhilippe Coutinho will agree to a move to a Premier League club by this weekend, with Aston Villa being one of six English clubs in the running to sign the Barcelona midfielder. The former Liverpool player wants to return to England and sign with an ambitious club where he can play regularly. The 29-year-old, who is also attracting interest from foreign teams, will decide on his next club at the weekend. Aston Villa have made a preliminary inquiry to Barcelona but Villas bosses are keen to avoid bidding wars with other clubs. The Brazilian’s salary claims could be significant too, but Villa boss Steven Gerrard is a huge admirer of Coutinho, who played by his side at Liverpool for two and a half years. Coutinho has played 16 games in all competitions for Barcelona this season and is under contract at the Nou Camp until June 2023. The former Inter Milan player is the Spanish giant's club record signing after joining from Liverpool for £ 146million in January 2018. But Coutinho, who has scored 28 goals in 105 games for Barca, is struggling to act for the La Liga side, where he has won four major trophies. "There are many clubs interested in signing Coutinho, including six Premier League clubs, but also clubs abroad." But he wants to go back to England and the Premier League. "I've been told that no club are in pole position right now to sign him. He wants to go somewhere he can settle down and play regularly." Aston Villa is interested in highly rated Scottish defender Aaron Hickey, Sky Sports News told Sky Sports News. The 19-year-old left-back moved to Italian club Bologna in the summer of 2020 after his breakthrough at Hearts. He has already played 19 Serie A games this season, scoring four goals. Steven Gerrard was originally impressed by Hickey's performances for Hearts against his Rangers team in Scotland and believes he could adapt well to the Premier League.
