How Arsenal could line up with Gabriel Jesus and Raphinha and what the transfers tell us about Mikel Arteta

The Gunners have acted decisively in the transfer market to bolster a small squad and it could result in a return to the Champions League (Author: Gardener)

GabrielAlthough it ended in disappointment, Arsenal appear determined to capitalize on a season of progress and promise by investing heavily in a talented but under-recruited squad. Portugal Under-21 playmaker Fabio Vieira has already struck a deal from Porto that could be worth £35m if certain clauses are met, with Gabriel Jesus following immediately after agreeing a £45m transfer with Manchester City became. Raphinha is another top target, with Leeds reportedly on hand for £65m for the winger, although Arsenal could face competition from Champions League clubs for his signature. Should Arsenal manage to convince Raphinha to swap Elland Road for the Emirates, Mikel Arteta would have a number of attacking options to choose from, with two players for each position: Bukayo Saka and Raphinha on the right wing (assuming Nicolas Pepe leaves ). , Martin Odegaard and Vieira in the No. 10 position, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe on the left, and Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in front. The club have certainly shown their faith in Arteta and the project they have put together over the past three years so far in this transfer window. The impending arrival of Jesus reunites the Brazilian with Arteta: the pair worked together for two years at City during Arteta's tenure as Pep Guardiola's assistant. That connection has certainly played a role in Jesus' decision to swap Champions League football for the Europa League, as has the promise of a more prominent role in the north London first-team than he was ever accustomed to in Manchester. In a way, Jesus is an intriguing character to build a front line around, having played more as a wide forward than through the middle in his final season at the Etihad. A record 95 goals in 236 games for City is nothing to sneeze at, given that he rarely made a streak of starts as a striker, nor has he scored in all three games for Brazil, but it will be interesting to see if a more consistent one playing time leads to a higher conversion rate. Jesus has undershot his expected goals (xG) in each of his five and a half seasons in the Premier League at City, massively in 2020-21 when he returned 14 goals from a 21.02 xG, according to Understat. However, Arteta is clearly confident that Jesus can be the sniper Arsenal sorely lacked last season – Bukayo Saka was top scorer with 11 league goals, bettered overall by 13 players in the division, while each of the four clubs did over Arsenal finished in the table had superior goal records. Arsenal pursuing a deal for Jesus is evidence that both technical director Edu Gaspar and Arteta's judgments are trusted. Arsenal don't exactly have left-footed players who can play on the right wing with Saka, Pepe and even Odegaard, which everyone has done for Arteta in the past. With the return of the controversial 2022-23 five-replacement rule, it's unsurprising that top clubs are looking to fill their squads with at least two players of roughly similar ability for each position. It could even result in a change of position for Saka, who initially broke through to the first-team on his strongest side. Jurgen Klopp did a similar thing after bringing Mo Salah to Liverpool in 2017, with Sadio Mane moving from the right wing to the left: suffice it to say that particular move worked out pretty well. Arsenal fans' biggest fear as the battle for fourth place slipped away was that it would have a copycat effect in the transfer window: that it would become more difficult to convince top players to join a club competing in the second tier. Arteta used a 4-2-3-1 formation or a variation of it last season and given the profile of the player Arsenal are targeting this summer, it seems unlikely that Arteta will deviate too much from that. But Jesus will be the leading man in attack and is likely to be flanked by Saka and Raphinha should Arsenal sanction a club-record fee for the latter. Arteta is a big Odegaard fan and his No 10 position is secure despite Vieira's arrival. The benefit of added depth in key areas means Arteta has more game-changing options on the bench for Premier League games, which allow five substitutes, and the option to refresh his side to cope with a heavily congested season and extra games that participation getting ready will bring them into the Europa League. Arsenal already appear to have a stronger squad now than they were a few weeks ago, with Vieira and USA international goalkeeper Matt Turner and Jesus to follow. So much so that a completely transformed XI would still feature William Saliba – fresh off an excellent season on loan to Marseille – in defense and Martinelli and Smith Rowe in attack. And it's indicative of the club's recent squad-building that a team made up of players under the age of 24 wouldn't differ too much from Arteta's strongest team.

Tasha admits she ALREADY knows newcomer Charlie

The 23-year-old model revealed in a confession to the other girls that she knows the 28-year-old newcomer as they previously matched on dating app Hinge. (Author: Gardener)

ALREADYLove Island fans felt suspicious when Tasha Ghouri admitted she was previously romantically linked to Charlie Radnedge on Friday's episode. The 23-year-old model revealed in a confession to the other girls that she knows the 28-year-old newcomer as they previously matched on dating app Hinge. In the shared dressing room, she said, "Girls, I recognize Charlie from Hinge," which prompted Indiyah Polack to exclaim, "No way!" Skeptical fans were soon flooding Twitter with their thoughts, with some joking that "the world can't be that small" and noting that Jacques O'Neill and Davide Sanclimenti previously interacted on Instagram before entering the villa. Since Tasha and Charlie went on a date in the episode, others slammed her for "compromising" her connection with Andrew Le Page over a "failed hinge thing." They wrote: "I refuse to believe Tasha knew Charlie from the start. The world is not so small for that, Jaques and Davide know each other inside out and an ex of an islander is said to be in the villa. "Recognize Charlie from Hinge! She swiped left, she matched, they talked? "If you're not compatible with him, why risk everything for him on TV? How did you love yourself on the hinge talk WHAT #LoveIsland.' The recent reunion proved to be their most dramatic yet as an angry Tasha confronted the boys about the 'rude' reaction after being voted out of Bombshell Charlie again by Andrew . In dramatic scenes, Tasha broke down in tears after learning that the boys had questioned her romance with Andrew, noting that every new man who entered the mansion turned her head after they confessed had that she was open to meeting Charlie. Despite this, Charlie decided to develop another connection with Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, leaving the rest of the islanders stunned, while Jay Younger made a bold move and stole Paige Thorne from Jacques. Andrew was keen to know how Tasha's date with Charlie went, and she explained, "I went in with a completely open mind to see what happened. It was a good date. He's a handsome guy," before admitting she felt like she'd "lost herself" since first entering the mansion almost three weeks ago. You are a very good looking girl. But after Tasha admitted to enjoying the date with the new bombshell, Andrew was disheartened ahead of the reunion, and the boys were quick to realize he realized how much he liked Tasha. "I know what's happening tonight," the real estate agent told friends Antigoni Buxton and Jay Younger - and suggested Charlie would pick Tasha to set up with her again. Elsewhere, Charlie chatted to Ekin-Su about their date, and she later admitted she's "excited to see how much time goes by," adding that she's "open" to seeing what's up the new bomb could happen. And when Andrew was sweating, Tasha chatted up Charlie on the sundeck, where he asked, "Would you be willing to see what would happen?". I enjoyed the date today, it was a lot of fun. If I chose you, would you be open to seeing what would happen or are you closed to it?' While an irate Andrew insisted he wouldn't stay at the mansion and be "robbed," Tasha tried to talk to him about his feelings, but when he asks why her feelings have changed so drastically, she walks away angrily . Love Island continues on Sunday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVHub. All episodes are available on Britbox the next morning.

ChelseaRoundup of Chelsea transfer news, rumors and gossip in the 2022 summer window. Chelsea's offer at this point has trumped Arsenal who had rejected an opening offer but are expected to return with an improved offer. Chelsea are also in for Raheem Sterling and Manchester City are expecting to make an offer for the England international after Thomas Tuchel signed Sterling on how he would fit at Stamford Bridge. Manchester City are awaiting an opening offer from Chelsea for Raheem Sterling after Thomas Tuchel signed the England international as he would fit at Stamford Bridge. The forward tops a shortlist of the manager's attacking targets and enters the final year of his contract with the Premier League champions, who is grateful for his service and will not hamper his desire for more minutes and status elsewhere. The Blues are interested in the Brazilian striker as a potential replacement for Inter Milan's Romelu Lukaku, but he is one of several options the club are exploring to improve their front line. Thomas Tuchel could sign up to three new strikers, with interests in Man City's Raheem Sterling and Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele, who will soon be out of contract. Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale and Manchester United expect him to remain at Old Trafford despite reports linking the Portuguese star with a sensational move to Chelsea. United's failure to qualify for the Champions League and lack of signings this summer have prompted reports Ronaldo may want to leave. His agent Jorge Mendes met Chelsea's new co-owner Todd Boehly last week and Ronaldo was mentioned during the meeting but new United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Ronaldo is part of his future plans. Ronaldo returned to United last summer, 12 years after originally leaving the club for Real Madrid, and has scored 24 goals in 38 games to finish as the club's top scorer in all competitions. Chelsea are ready to pay €45m plus Timo Werner to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus while Hakim Ziyech is in talks with AC Milan, Sky in Italy reports. Ziyech could become the third Chelsea player to join AC Milan in the last 12 months, with Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori joining the Italian giants last summer. Chelsea are expected to hire Michael Edwards for his vacancy as sporting director, with owner Todd Boehly previously describing Liverpool as a "great success story". A source close to Edwards has told Sky Sports News that since the 42-year-old's decision to leave him was made public last November, the 42-year-old has been watched by Europe's powerhouse teams - notably Real Madrid and Paris Saint- Germain – as well as being approached by hedge funds and billionaires who want to buy clubs and have him run them. Chelsea are interested in Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, Sky in Italy reports. The 22-year-old Dutch defender has a £103m (€120m) release clause in his Juventus contract, which expires in 2024, and the club will only accept offers close to that mark. The 22-year-old Dutch defender has a £103m (€120m) release clause in his Juventus contract, which expires in 2024, and the club will only accept offers close to that mark. Chelsea are looking for defensive reinforcements this transfer window after Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen left after their contracts expired. Chelsea and Inter Milan have agreed on a loan move for striker Romelu Lukaku, according to Sky in Italy. Only the final details of the deal need to be worked out before Inter can welcome Lukaku back to the club just 11 months after being sold to Chelsea for £97.5m. Michael Edwards, the architect of Liverpool's recent successes in the transfer market, is among the options being considered by Chelsea to become their new sporting director (The Times, June 22). The new owners are set to shell out around £200m with Seville's Jules Kounde, Brighton's Marc Cucurella and Manchester City couple Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling. Dembele is one of the most sought-after players in this summer's transfer window as his contract with Barcelona expires on June 30 (Daily Mirror, June 27). Chelsea could be in line for a busy transfer window as Thomas Tuchel eyes a summer eviction after completing the club's takeover (Daily Mirror, June 10). New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly was allowed to withhold more than £100m from his purchase of the club amid fears they would incur costs of Roman Abramovich-era liabilities. Chelsea crash Arsenal's bid for Raphinha with £60m bid

Talks with former Chelsea midfielder Deco, Raphinha's agent, are at an advanced stage and are at the heart of negotiations. Arsenal have held talks with Leeds but have not come close to Chelsea's offer. (Author: Gardener)

RaphinhaChelsea on Tuesday crashed Arsenal's bid to sign Raphinha from Leeds United in a £60million offer. Talks are progressing after Leeds accepted an offer of £55million plus surcharges with former Chelsea midfielder Deco, Raphinha's agent, at the heart of the negotiations. In a hectic day, Arsenal held talks with Leeds after their initial £30m bid at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea plan to pair Raphinha with Raheem Sterling in a new strike force as they continue parallel talks with Manchester City over a £55m deal for the England international. Chelsea appear to be signing Raphinha after making a £60m offer for the Leeds winger. Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is keen to expand his team's attacking options this summer. old to join Barcelona. The crucial move came when record signing Romelu Lukaku flew to Italy on Tuesday night ahead of his scheduled medical at Inter Milan on Wednesday morning. Talks are also ongoing with Juventus, who are interested in taking either Christian Pulisic or Timo Werner as part of a deal for Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt. Ideally, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel would like to pair de Ligt with fellow Manchester City player Nathan Ake, while Chelsea have also asked about club-mate Oleksandr Zinchenko. Ake is open to a London return but the price has to reflect City's need to fund a replacement and the fact that the 27-year-old is classified as a 'homegrown'. Chelsea have also been offered the chance to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Chelsea's dramatic move for Raphinha paves the way for Tottenham to sign Richarlison from Everton Premier League clubs. He was ready to join Arsenal after they made their opening bid, but Chelsea immediately offered Champions League football and, more importantly, matched Leeds' valuation. Raphinha scored 11 goals and provided three assists last season as Leeds narrowly avoided relegation and the acquisition of such a creative and offensive threat will delight Tuchel as he looks to give Liverpool and Manchester City greater competition. Raphinha's signing will almost certainly end the club's interest in becoming free agent Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona and Everton's Richarlison soon. For their part, Leeds will focus on their own goals as they prepare to transfer over £100m from the sale of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips, who is expected to join City on Friday.
