SundayA Flex Alert was issued for California for Sunday, the fifth straight day it has been issued, as the Golden State faces an intense heatwave this long Labor Day weekend. A Flex Alert has been issued by the California Independent System Operator for five consecutive days as high heat and increased power demands continue throughout the Golden State. The Cal ISO Alert is a nationwide call for voluntary power conservation during the California power grid's peak usage period, which occurs from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Sunday Flex Alert applies to that five-hour period of the day. Like Saturday, daytime temperatures on Sunday are expected to soar above 100 degrees in most regions of the state and throughout the west during the holiday weekend. Cal ISO anticipates high demand for electricity, particularly from the use of air conditioning, and requires voluntary energy conservation policies to help balance electricity supply and demand. While the so-called massive harmful algal bloom stretching across San Francisco Bay appears to be waning starting Saturday, state and regional water resource officials are predicting the days of depleted oxygen levels caused by the algae could lead to widespread aquatic deaths. That's the warning, according to the California Water Resources Control Board, the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Better known as the "red tide" because the algal bloom has turned much of the San Francisco Bay area a reddish-brown color, the algal bloom was first spotted in Alameda in late July and has become the largest in the bay's recorded history. During this weekend's heatwave, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority is offering free rides to several local refrigeration centers during the heatwave. San Jose police are investigating a double stabbing that occurred late Saturday afternoon. A spokesman for the San Jose Police Department said the incident happened around 5 p.m. Located on the 3600 block of Hillcap Avenue, near Capitol Drive-In. Two men were taken to local hospitals with stab wounds. One suffered life-threatening injuries, but police said late Saturday night his condition had stabilized. A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle in south San Jose on Saturday night, according to the San Jose Police Department. A police spokesman said the incident happened around 8:45 p.m. located on the 5800 block of Santa Teresa Boulevard, near Santa Teresa High School. This is San Jose's 45th fatal traffic accident of 2022 and 25th fatal pedestrian accident of the year. A fatal collision on I-580 in Oakland near the I-980 junction closed westbound lanes for about three hours Saturday night, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Andrew Barclay. Westbound lanes of I-580 were closed near the ramp to MacArthur Boulevard after a pedestrian attempted to cross the freeway and was struck by a vehicle at 9:15 p.m. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The westbound lanes and connection to I-980 reopened at 12:16 a.m. Sonoma County is working with the cities of Santa Rosa, Petaluma and Healdsburg and a coalition of community groups to launch a two-year pilot program that will provide a guaranteed minimum monthly income of $500 to 305 low-income families while reducing the impact of the program to reduce poverty and promote economic stability and mobility. The project is a collaborative effort of the Sonoma County Guaranteed Basic Income Coalition, a group of community-based organizations led by First 5 Sonoma County in partnership with the Fund for Guaranteed Income. The $5.4 million effort is funded by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors and the Santa Rosa, Petaluma and Healdsburg City Councils, as well as Corazon Healdsburg and First 5 Sonoma County. A new fire protection facility opening in North Bay will strengthen Cal Fire's response to wildfires in the Sonoma Valley. Cal Fire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit (LNU) and Sonoma County announced Saturday the opening of this new facility. It is located at 538 Eliza Way, Santa Rosa. The Hood Mountain Fire Center is in addition to the unit's two California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Conservation Camps: Konocti Camp in Lake County and Delta Camp in Solano County. There is a fraudulent bank scam that Marin County police are trying to warn residents about after a victim reported receiving a call from someone saying they would soon be receiving a call from a police officer about a faulty bank account. The Central Marin Police Authority this week took a fraud report from a Marin County woman who said she received a call from someone asking if they had a bank account in Texas. When the victim said they did not have a bank account in Texas, the caller informed them that they would be receiving a call from a police officer. Shortly after the initial call, the victim received a call from someone who said he was a police officer. The victim could not remember the officer's name but was confident the call was from the Central Marin Police Authority emergency number. A police spokesman said Saturday that neither the department nor any other law enforcement agency is calling community members to demand payment for bank accounts. Anyone residing in Corte Madera, Larkspur or San Anselmo who becomes a victim of this scam and causes a financial loss of any amount is asked to contact the Central Marine Police Authority emergency number at (415) 927-5150. The National Weather Service forecast for Sunday for the greater San Francisco Bay Area calls for clear skies and hot weather in most of the region with daily highs in the upper 60s to 70s along the coast to the 80s and 90s around the bay and between the upper 90s and 100-110 degrees around Napa and in the inland valleys of the East Bay. The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for most of the Bay Area on Sunday, and further inland in the Stockton area an excessive heat warning is in place. On Sunday evening, temperatures will drop to the high 50s and low 60s around the bay and the mid 70s inland. Copyright © 2022 Bay City News, Inc. 2 students were injured in a shooting on the Delaware state campus Saturday morning

Delaware State University police are investigating the early morning shooting of two students on campus Saturday. (Author: Gardener)

SaturdayTwo students were injured in a shooting on the Delaware State University campus outside the Wellness and Recreation Center in Dover early Saturday. A university alert issued at 5:21 a.m. said four people were shot, but an email sent six hours later to faculty, staff and students by DSU President Tony Allen said only two students were injured. University spokesman Carlos Holmes later said that the early morning alarm was false and that only the two unidentified students mentioned in Allen's email were injured. The university has not provided any updates on its terms other than to say that all of the injured were taken to Bayhealth Hospital's Kent campus and that DSU police are still investigating. Holmes did not confirm or deny that shots were fired at a group of students outside the dormitories. However, the campus was buzzing on Saturday as parents, students and fans turned up and prepared for a 2:00 p.m. Football game against Lincoln University, which went ahead as scheduled. Allen said in his email that there will be increased security for both this game and all home games. As early as Saturday morning the game was crowded and students could be seen on campus. Allen encouraged email recipients to "come together in solidarity as (they) cheer on our student-athletes, coaches and staff at the football game." Several students, who asked not to be identified, said the shooting was an isolated incident and they felt safe on campus. Another student, a junior, who declined to give her name, said while it's rare, it seems like a report of gunshots is made every year. A sophomore, Maaliyah Stennett, said this was the second shooting she had heard of. "Campus security needs to be looking for guns instead of being so concerned about whether students are drinking or where people are parking." Dover Police Department spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said Dover police officers were called to DSU at 1:18 am to help respond to the shooting, which is being investigated by the DSU Police Department. "Our role on campus was on-site security and providing assistance to victims," Schmid said. The DSU emergency alert said the shooting was part of a robbery, but there were no suspects as of 5:21 a.m. The alert also stated that the shooting occurred at 1:45 a.m., nearly half an hour after Dover Police reported they had been called to campus. DSU police have not responded to requests for comment. "We will seek justice in this matter," Allen said in his email. Allen wrote that DSU is "committed to creating and maintaining a safe campus environment" and will host a "forum" on Tuesday to provide updates and hear from the community. A later Facebook post from the university said the forum would be held online at 11am. MORE: Check this phone number: Scammers are now pretending to be the Delaware police Volleyball game -- the Hornet Invitational -- going on as scheduled. Students could even be seen moving around the wellness and recreation center where gunfire had erupted just hours earlier. When a reporter from Delaware Online/The News Journal, who arrived on campus Saturday, asked to speak to students there, Holmes replied, "Why? He said his boss told him that DSU "won't have any media exposure" on Saturday. Parents of students who witnessed the shooting posted on social media that students were playing basketball early Saturday morning when gunfire erupted, a parent of a DSU student who asked not to be identified but spoke to their child about the incident said that a student was shot and his shoes were stolen. They were also told that shots were fired at a crowd of students. These reports have not been confirmed by the university. Three men were seen scrubbing a portion of the basketball court in front of the Wellness and Recreation Center Saturday afternoon, but they forwarded all comments to DSU officials. "DSU needs better security," said the parent. Check with Delaware Online for updates. Send story tips or ideas to Hannah Edelman at [email protected]

The group stage essentials featuring Chelsea's Reece James and more

Barcelona's Sergio Busquets and Liverpool's Mo Salah join some surprising names (Author: Gardener)

ChelseaWith the Champions League group stage kicking off Tuesday on Paramount+, it's a good time to take a look at who the most irreplaceable players are in the field for the 32 participating teams. From defenders and goalies protecting the net to forwards tasked with scoring goals and everything in between, we take a look at the ten most important players in the group stage. Possibly the key attacker and defender for the Blues this season, James has netted one goal and one assist in the Premier League while splitting time between right-back and right-back. He's Chelsea's best full-back while also being one of the better centre-backs in the squad and now Wesley Fofana's arrival from Leicester City will allow him to spend more time on the wing and power the ball into the last third. James can lock down a team's best winger - which will be important against the likes of AC Milan's Rafael Leao - while also teaming up with Raheem Sterling to speed up the attack. Out of everyone in the Chelsea squad, James is the only player whose absence for any reason could see them fall out of the group stage. With Group C forming as a group of dead with Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Viktoria Pilsen, there will be subtle differences between a team that makes it to the knockout rounds or the Europa League. Busquets makes defenders' job easier by directing attacks to more manageable spots while also ticking the play for offense. Busquets is someone on the list who cannot be replaced. Frenkie de Jong can help move the ball but he's a different breed of defensive midfielder which would mean the powerful attacks Barcelona will see would slice them apart. According to the expected goals after shot measurements, no goalkeeper prevented more goals in the Champions League last season than Vlachodimos' 6.42. With 57 saves from 76 shots on target last season, he and Thibaut Courtois were miles ahead of the other goalkeepers in the competition. While Ajax were chasing him on deadline day, Vlachodimos is still at Benfica and will need to put in a similar performance if they want to make it to the knockout stages again. Without Darwin Nunez, Benfica's attacking teams have a little less to worry about, which means Vlachodimos is likely to get even more shots than last season. After winning the Europa League last season, Kamada and Frankfurt have a big task in the Champions League, but if Kamada can bring his European form from last season, in which he scored five goals and assisted another, Frankfurt's chances would increase , to survive the group stage, be good to rise significantly. With three goals and one assist in the Bundesliga this season, Kamada could be in the middle of a breakout season at a key juncture after the club lost significant depth this summer. The midfield and supporting cast around Osimhen have also improved, but against Liverpool, Rangers and Ajax Napoli they need to find the net to advance to the knockout stages of the tournament. Dribbling dangerous and creating his own chances when given space, Osimhen can be a one-man demolition team in the group stage. Salah has failed to live up to his high expectations while Liverpool struggled to open the Premier League season. Salah touches the ball less as the team tries to integrate Darwin Nunez and has 'only' managed two goals and two assists so far this season. I'm only saying because that return would be great for most players, but when Salah scored 23 goals and provided 13 more goals last season, he's in a different stratosphere. Liverpool as a whole have not had the start to the season they wanted with nine points from six games but if Salah can once again become the side's talisman things will quickly return to normal with the Champions League game taking center stage. Mane has quickly made himself indispensable to Bayern Munich since arriving from Liverpool with three goals in five games. Flexibility is why Bayern Munich haven't missed Robert Lewandowski so far this season and he will even have the added bonus of being able to play against the player he replaced when Bayern meet Barcelona in the group stage. A key player for club and country, Orsic will cause problems for Chelsea's defense as he is always dangerous when he touches the ball. Orsic has been involved in nine domestic goals this season and was instrumental in Dinamo Zagreb progressing through the Champions League play-off stage and already scoring three goals this year. If he's able to keep things going, Dinamo could have a good chance of ending up in the Europa League while worrying Chelsea and AC Milan in their games. If things get wild enough during the group stage, don't count Dinamo as a dark horse to reach the knockout stages. One of the most electrifying strikers in the world, Nkunku was involved in nearly a goal a game in the Bundesliga last season. While Timo Werner's return to Leipzig this season brings more attacking prowess, Nkunku is among the best in the world at his craft. With five goals in all competitions, Nkunku will look to exploit Celtic and Shakhtar Donetsk defenses to advance to the knockout stages. The heart and soul of the squad, Pepe's fighting spirit may be overdone at times, but it will also see Porto punch above their weight in the Champions League. Without a proper replacement in the squad, Porto will eventually have to look for Pepe but that won't be necessary this season.

UFC Fight Night Predictions – Ciryl Gane vs. Tai Tuivasa

UFC debuts in France on night that could cement Gane or Tuivasa as the next heavyweight title challenger (Author: Gardener)

UFC Fight Night Predictions – Ciryl GaneHeavyweights will clash at the UFC's inaugural event in France on Saturday. French native Ciryl Gane will take on fan favorite Tai Tuivasa in the Accor Arena main event with a potential title shot at stake. Gane (10-1) fell a round short of dethroned UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou at UFC 270. A big tactical mistake in round 5 probably cost him the world championship title. Gane, 32, is only four years into his mixed martial arts journey but has developed a well-rounded game, as evidenced by an almost even split of KO, submission and decision wins. Defensively, Gane is an evasive fighter who has never been stopped. A strong performance against Tuivasa keeps Gane's name on everyone's lips in title talk. "He's really dangerous, and everyone knows that," Gane told reporters on Thursday's media day. So I want to end the fight before the end because both of us will probably be very tired together and I'm expecting that kind of fight.” Get the latest on the world of martial arts from two of the best in the business. Subscribe to Morning Kombat with Luke Thomas and Brian Campbell for the best analysis and in-depth news, including a full preview of what to expect in Paris on Saturday night. Tuivasa (14-3) has established himself as one of the UFC's most marketable fighters. The gimmick sometimes overshadows Tuivasa's natural charisma and nasty habit of taking down enemies. Tuivasa showed great determination, turning a disappointing losing streak of three fights to score five straight KOs. He emerged as a potential title challenger with a second-round KO of Derrick Lewis in February. Tuivasa KO'd all but one of his 14 victims in less than seven minutes. "Ciryl is a champion," said Tuivasa. I've fought a few champions now and he's up there with the best for sure. He would probably be one of the most elusive fighters with his speed and movement. The co-main event is just as strong with a former champion and title challenger joining at middleweight. Robert Whittaker will take on Marvin Vettori to remain relevant as a pair in the division thin against rivals for champions Israel Adesanya. Both have lost to Adesanya twice but with the champion meeting Alex Pereira in November there remains the potential to move up to 205lbs which could open up the title or an interim title for the winner of that title. Also, Alessio Di Chirico and Roman Kopylov are set for another middleweight fight on the main card. Rising featherweight prospects William Gomis and Jarno Errens are also suspended. But things start with two featherweight veterans as Charles Jourdain and Nathaniel Wood go head-to-head. Here's the fight card for UFC Fight Night with the latest odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Ciryl Gane vs. Tai Tuivasa: Gane is a huge favorite to go into the fight due to his well-rounded game. He's elusive and arguably the most technical heavyweight forward on the roster. That's a tall order for Tuivasa - a high-profile brawler who gives more than he gets, but don't let three straight Fight of the Night honors fool you. Gane will not offer Tuivasa the exchanges or opportunities that other opponents have. If Tuivasa approaches cautiously, he will likely be dismantled. If he fights wildly, he will likely get caught. Gane should be able to utilize any game plan Tuivasa comes up with en route to a raucous celebration with his countrymen. When Tuivasa pulls the fuss, let the beer flow. Triple H has first misstep with Raquel Rodriguez, Aliyah Win, More WWE Raw Takes

Last Monday Night Raw before the WWE Clash at the Castle, new WWE Women's Tag Team Champions were finally crowned while several major feuds continued... (Author: Gardener)

Raquel RodriguezSource: The final WWE Raw before Clash at the Castle finally saw new women's tag team champions crowned as several major feuds continued to build. Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah pulled off a shocking victory over Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai to become the defending WWE Women's Tag Team Champion. Sami Zayn joined The Usos at the red mark where a communication error cost Jey Uso against Kevin Owens. Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle had one last chat before their showdown on Saturday in Cardiff, Wales, with The Visionary using several memorable lines to taunt his rival. Appearing on Raw, Kurt Angle interacting with Alpha Academy and them in a memorable tag team match with The Street Profits wasn't the best night for the red brand, but building towards Clash of the Castle has the pay-per -View made an event not to be missed. WWE did a great job rebuilding its women's tag team division during the title tournament, but most of the teams fielded by the competition have little in common—the more established pairing of Rodriguez and Dakota Kai from their days in NXT. Aliyah is a likable underdog but doesn't quite match Kai, as evidenced by the interactions between them during Monday's Main Event. Big Mami Cool does the heavy lifting for her team. While that works well for a tag team still in development, as the new WWE Women's Tag Team Champions, they make an awkward pair, especially as better tandems on Raw overshadow them. Sky and Kai were ready to wear the belts for the long haul. They're linked to the hottest angle in the women's division and it would have instantly upped the titles to be associated with their group alongside Bayley. The department doesn't need to take a backseat after that, but booking here leaves WWE in a sticky spot where keeping these champions relevant will be a lot harder. The American Nightmare was on the rise following its WWE return and needed momentum. Matt Riddle, who got his first name back this week, is a very talented performer with a lot of potential, but he's still not on the same level as Rollins. WWE needs to establish a new hierarchy at the top of the map. Given the history between the two men, if Roman Reigns can defeat Drew McIntyre at the Clash at the Castle, Rollins would be a perfect next challenger. and Riddle isn't quite ready to go head-to-head with a current champion. Kurt Angle and Alpha Academy are a perfect match. Even though the Olympic gold medalist had issues with Chad Gable and Otis on Monday night, it's just too right not to eventually bring them together. Gable has been fantastic these past few weeks and that continued on Raw. He and Otis challenged The Street Profits in a wild tag team match that was the best of the night. The problem is that Alpha Academy needs legitimacy to climb back up the ranks. Angle can be the missing element to bring a new twist to the group. It's always good to play at a high level in the ring, but it's more important to get back to the title fight and pay-per-view representation. Gable and Angle have been spinning around each other for too long. The eventual reunion of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens will be the best WWE story of 2023 And the two men are now telling the most compelling story in WWE. That story got a new wrinkle on Raw when Zayn interacted with his old friend Kevin Owens and an unintentional distraction set up The Prizefighter for a win against Jey Uso. The Usos continue to question The Master Strategist, which will likely result in Zayn challenging the undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions. However, if he wants to strive for the tag titles, he needs the best partner. He and KO have constantly bonded over the years, and it's time to commit to what makes them so special. They are among the best in WWE and can make any storyline work. This is a story with The Bloodline that can be the highlight of both Raw and SmackDown. Years of building coupled with the greatest stable WWE that WWE has built in decades will be the story of 2023 when the time is just right.

The real winners and losers of UFC Fight Night 210

UFC Fight NightThe Real Winners and Losers of UFC Fight Night 210 UFC Fight Night 210 took place in Paris on Saturday, and it wasn't your usual fight card. It marked the UFC's long-awaited debut in France, where MMA was illegal until 2019. The promotion put together a suitably solid card to celebrate the occasion. The headlining honor went to a heavyweight bout between No. 1 contender Ciryl Gane - hometown hero - and visiting Australia's Tai Tuivasa, who was heading into the fight as No. 3. Barring a second-round scare, Gane was on top form in the fight, finishing his Australian opponent with a vicious third-round volley. The co-main event, meanwhile, saw No. 1 middleweight contender Robert Whittaker - a former champion - risk his spot against Italy's Marvin Vettori, the division's No. 2 contender. Australia's Whittaker was the picture of dominance in the fight, beating his dangerous opponent to a resounding unanimous victory. Elsewhere on the card we saw appearances from a number of French fighters and fighters from French-speaking regions like Quebec, including 12th-ranked middleweight Nassourdine Imavov, who defeated Joaquin Buckley on the main card by unanimous decision. In the end it was a great night of fighting and just the kind of reward The fans in France have earned their incredible patience. Keep scrolling for the true winners and losers of the UFC debut in the country. There was a lot of pressure on Ciryl Gane's shoulders ahead of UFC Fight Night 210. Not only was he tasked with headlining the UFC's first event in his home country against the extremely dangerous Tai Tuivasa, but it was his opportunity to bounce back from a decision loss to reigning heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and re-establish himself as the division's top conte to claim nder. He has done all that and more. The French heavyweight was incredible in the fight. While brought down by a Tuivasa punch in round two, he firmly controlled the action outside of that fear, eventually scoring a TKO in round three with a sizzling attack to the body and head. After the win, Gane's future is a bit murky. His loss to Ngannou is still visible in the back view, and to make matters worse, the champion is embroiled in a heated contract dispute with the UFC that has significantly complicated the heavyweight title situation. One way or another, however, Gane numbers play a big part in any talk surrounding Ngannou's undisputed title or the creation of an interim title if the champion doesn't fight again soon. He certainly seems to see it that way. "Dana, now I'm going back to the belts, please," he told UFC President Dana White after the fight. Former UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker was back in action in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 210, taking on 2nd place contender Marvin Vettori on Italy. The former champion made it look easy, beating his opponent to an apparent unanimous victory. The performance confirmed the prevailing discourse surrounding Whittaker: that he is the best middleweight alive outside of reigning champion Israel Adesanya, to whom he lost twice. But that might actually be an understatement. After UFC Fight Night 210, it's clear that Whittaker is not only the second-best middleweight in the UFC, but one of the greatest fighters in division history, regardless of how he compares to the current champion. The Aussie has beaten just about every middleweight of note in recent years including Vettori, Jared Cannonier, Derek Brunson, Darren Till, Kelvin Gastelum and Brad Tavares - all currently ranked in the top 15. Throw his victories over other stars like Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza and Yoel Romero, and his legacy as one of the true greats of the division really cannot be betrayed. And he seems to know it. "With the champion, I'm the most dangerous man in the division," Whittaker said in his post-fight interview with commentator Michael Bisping. I'll always be there, waiting.” Joaquin Buckley has sold himself a big opportunity at UFC Fight Night 210: a fight with No. 12 middleweight contender and homeland hero Nassourdine Imavov. He entered the fight himself unranked, so there was potential for a massive payout. The American showed a lot of heart in the fight and had a strong third round but ultimately couldn't back up his words before the fight. He just couldn't handle his opponent's substantial size and regularly gain enough advantage to get his own game going, and lost a unanimous decision as a result. While Buckley couldn't bolster the conversation that led to his fight with Imavov, he was able to earn his opponent's respect - a remarkable feat given the bad blood that simmered between them throughout fight week and even during the fight. "He's a warrior," said Imavov after his decision win over Buckley. A few weeks ago Leon Edwards reminded us all that a fight isn't really over until it's over when he knocked out pound-for-pound star Kamaru Usman in the last minute of a welterweight title fight he appeared to be thru decision would win was a comeback for the ages. It's the rarity of such comebacks that makes them so special. We were reminded of that in the second fight of the main card of UFC Fight Night 210, when Paris' William Gomis found himself in a triangle choke in the last minute of a fight with Dutchman Jarno Errens - a fight he was on course to victory by Decision. The choke looked deep and it wouldn't have been surprising to see a tap, but after a prolonged fight, Gomis dodged danger and survived the rest of the fight to win by majority decision. "It was really, really complicated," Gomis said of Errens' last-minute comeback attempt. I'd rather die than give up.” In the first fight of the main card of UFC Fight Night 210, England's Nathaniel Wood made his featherweight debut after a long tenure at bantamweight, and faced Canadian Charles Jourdain in the process. Early in the fight, John Gooden commented and Michael Bisping remarked on how much smaller Wood looked than his opponent and it gave the impression that the Brit's quest for greener pastures in a heavier weight class could end in disaster. But that was not the case. Halfway through the first half it was clear that Wood was the faster and sharper striker of the two men. He then continued to beat his opponent in rounds two and three, mixing in a few trips and takedowns for good measure. Jourdain offered plenty of return fire, but by the end of the third it was a clear, unanimous decision win for Holz. Time will tell if his climb to featherweight pays off in the long run, but it's certainly off to a good start.

Kyrie Irving opens up about feeling 'uncomfortable' trying to replace LeBron James with Cavs

It appears (Author: Gardener)

Kyrie IrvingWhen LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat in 2010, it was up to Kyrie Irving to carry the franchise further into the playoffs and beyond, but it wasn't always easy for the superstar point guard. On the final episode of The Shop, Irving said trying to replace James with the Cavaliers was an "uncomfortable" feeling: A year later I was drafted into this Cleveland emotional train of the prodigal son, the chosen one has gone, and here it is are we have this 19 year old kid. As I embraced this pressure as my own, I started thinking, 'I have to get Cleveland back to the promised land.' It was a solo act.” The Cavaliers selected James the first overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft before picking Irving the first overall pick in the 2011 draft. James spent the first seven seasons of his career in Cleveland before signing a free-agent contract with the Miami Heat for the 2010-11 season. During his first stint with the Cavs from 2003-2010, the now four-time NBA champion led the franchise five straight playoff appearances, including a 2007 NBA Finals appearance and a berth in the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals James was named Rookie of the Year for the 2003-04 season and won four MVP awards before starting the franchise left. When drafted, Irving was set to lead the Cavs back to greatness following the departure of James. And considering he was also number 1, he was under a lot of pressure to follow in James' footsteps. Irving was named Rookie of the Year in 2011-12 but didn't reach the kind of greatness that James was and the Cavs failed to make the postseason from the 2011-12 season through the 2013-14 season. When James returned to Cleveland in 2014-15, he and Irving teamed up to lead the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals four straight seasons. The duo won a title alongside the Cavs in 2016, overcoming a 3-1 deficit and defeating the Golden State Warriors. Prior to the 2017-18 season, Irving was traded to the Boston Celtics. A year later, James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers and still plays for the Purple and Gold. Irving, meanwhile, has teamed up with Durant in the Nets, and the duo are shouldering much of the pressure in Brooklyn. Durant requested a trade with the Nets earlier this summer, and at some point it looked like Irving would have to lead a team alone again. However, last month Durant withdrew his request, and the duo will look to lead the Nets to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2003. Of course, Irving is still under a lot of pressure to succeed, but he has another superstar in Durant to lean on in addition to Ben Simmons, which should help him shoulder some of the burden in 2022-23.

From backup dancer, K-pop idol at 15 to global superstar at 25

On Jungkook's birthday, here's his rise from teenage idol to global superstar. (Author: Gardener)

JungkookWhenever the other BTS members were asked about their youngest member, Jungkook, they all unanimously agree, claiming that he excels at whatever he tries. As the leader RM once said, “Without Jungkook, BTS will do a lot of damage. It's the same with every other member, but Jungkook is our main singer. Each of the vocalists maintains the harmonic balance in the band - while Jin has the power of emotional falsettos, Jimin can shift between mature and childish tones, V has the deep, resonant vocals, but Jungkook stands out with his decidedly soothing tones that he can effortlessly stand out from Switch euphoria to fear. Also read|Jungkook vs. BTS: From swapping Jin for ice cream to calling Suga a steamed bun, he's had 8 wildest comebacks. This belief that he can do anything is ingrained in ARMY, especially those who have a Jungkook bias --- that he is actually the 'Golden Maknae' (maknae meaning youngest member in a group). You name it, and BTS and ARMY will back it up — he's got powerful vocals, he's got a magnetic stage presence and commands the stage with prolific dance skills — and for those who faithfully watch Run BTS, he's an ace at all games too, almost to a mistake. Also, to top it off, he exudes charisma and has a rather wicked sense of humor, which is evident in the numerous occasions when he quietly trolls his members, particularly Jin and Jimin. In one of his pre-debut videos, a nervous Jungkook says to the camera, "I'm Jeon Jungkook, I'm fifteen years old. Please take care of me.” An unsuccessful audition for Superstar K in 2011 still brought Jungkook luck as several other entertainment companies sent him offers. He was so shy that CEO Bang Si-hyuk didn't know if it was possible for the young teenager to debut as a K-pop idol. "When Jungkook was a trainee, he couldn't sing when we asked him to," Bang said in an interview with Korea's OSEN news agency. He didn't have much talent, so the company asked if he could even debut." Despite this, Jungkook trained hard in his dancing and even went to Los Angeles in 2012 to work harder on his skills and was paired with Jimin, J-Hope and Suga, backup dancer for South Korean girl group Glam. In 2013, he debuted with the rest of the band on June 10 with the release of the single 2 Cool 4 Skool. By 2016, Jungkook had made his mark on the K-pop scene along with the rest of his BTS members. From backup dancer being ignored and snubbed by producers on a reality show for being seen as a kid, to being recognized as the idol who revolutionized the K-pop scene, Jungkook's journey deserves a biopic. Aside from playing music with his band members, he has several powerful solos to his credit, including Begin, Euphoria and My Time. The last two songs raged through the Billboard Top 100 and stayed on the charts for 85-90 weeks. He has countless achievements and recognitions under his wing - starting in 2019 when he was ranked as South Korea's third most popular celebrity after debuting in 2016 at 20. He was also the most searched idol on Google in 2019 and topped the charts again in 2020. In 2021 he broke his own record when his solo live reached around 22 million viewers. It's 2022 and Jungkook's catchy Left And Right with Charlie Puth won the VMAs for Song Of The Summer. He has an astronomical Instagram following, also exceeding 45 million. As an emotional RM Jungkook once said at a concert, "Without you, there is no BTS."

Barcelona's high-octane attack proves far too much for a struggling Sevilla

Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Ousmane Dembele all shone - as did Gavi - in another impressive win for Barcelona, this time against Sevilla. (Author: Gardener)

SevillaGoals from Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Eric Garcia were more than enough for Barcelona to secure a comfortable 3-0 win at the struggling Sevilla on Saturday. The win propels Barcelona into second place after four rounds behind LaLiga champions Real Madrid. Sevilla's most recent poor result - their third loss in four games to open the 2022-23 season - leaves them one place above the last three. 1. Barcelona front three keep Xavi's side close to LaLiga summit Barcelona didn't start the game with the control coach Xavi Hernandez desires, but their front three were efficient enough to get away with it as they trailed Real Madrid at the top from LaLiga. Led once again by Lewandowski, Barca bounced back from a slow start at the Sanchez Pizjuan to blow Sevilla away in the opening 35 minutes. The opening goal came on the counterattack as Ousmane supplied Dembele with Lewandowski, whose battered finish was run off the line only for Raphinha to head the rebound from close range. Lewandowski made second before the break, controlling and finishing brilliantly after being chosen by Jules Kounde, who returned to his former club after a €55m move in the summer. Lewandowski has now scored five goals in his last three games and while the Polish striker wasn't involved in the third, the lively Raphinha was. The Brazilian's deep cross was headed back into goal by Kounde, who scored his second assist of the night as Eric Garcia converted his first goal in professional football. With Real Madrid scoring four out of four wins against Real Betis earlier on Saturday, Barca, two points behind, need to keep their first three - and their substitutes Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres here - on fire if they want to keep up alongside Carlo Ancelotti. 2. Ter Stegen shows he's far from done as Barca's No. 1 Highlighting Marc-Andre ter Stegen's performance might seem wrong given the final standings, but the German goalkeeper's start to the season deserves to be highlighted. An ongoing knee injury has hampered his form over the past two years, leading to criticism of his performances and even suggestions that he could be usurped by understudy Inaki Pena sometime this season. But Ter Stegen has dispelled those doubts with a good start to the season. He had already made important appearances against Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad this season and once again helped Barca lay the groundwork for victory in Seville. Isco and Youssef En-Nesyri were both denied in the first half by good saves from Ter Stegen, who made some more experienced stops after the break. Including his four saves here, he has made 12 stops and conceded just one goal this season with a 3.11 xGa. 3. Lopetegui under pressure as Sevilla lose again Sevilla look in real trouble and things could get worse before things get better with Erling Haaland and Manchester City visiting the Champions League next week. After a brilliant start, they proved far too weak in defense as Barca easily eliminated them. They haven't recovered from the summer departures of centre-backs Diego Carlos and Kounde, who have returned to pursue them in Barca colors. Sevilla have just one point from four games and Julen Lopetegui's job will soon be put to the test. The Norwegian striker scored four times against Sevilla last season when Borussia Dortmund knocked them out of the Champions League. The midfielder led Barca's pressing, engaged in tackles and didn't give the Sevilla players a minute's rest. It's a difficult task to replace Carlos and Kounde but despite that, Nianzou had a night to forget against Barca. The former Bayern Munich defender never got a grip on Lewandowski. We've seen enough goals from Lewandowski, so why not Eric Garcia, who scored his first goal for the seniors today? Xavi also had a nice moment after another impressive win. It was a difficult start in the first 15 minutes, but then we settled into the game. I think we dominated and could have scored more goals. To win 3-0 in a place like this we are in a very good moment. -- Xavi, Barcelona coach "We were superior to Barcelona early in the game. They created very little threat and I think we had three or four clear chances. We didn't score and the first time we lost the ball , you." showed what quality they have and that, logically, did the damage. I think the future will be positive in that respect." -- Julen Lopetegui, Sevilla coach The way he plays, he is pure intensity, personality, hard work, heart, discipline (...) I don't want to face the others be unfair but he was maybe the best player tonight ." - Xavi, Barcelona manager, on Gavi - Barcelona: Biggest away win at Sevilla in LaLiga since 2014 (4-1). He has a 9-1-5 (W-L-D) in his last 15 league games at Sevilla – Barcelona : his 10 points is the most in the first four games of a LaLiga season since 2018-19 (12 points) - Robert Lewandowski (BAR) : Has scored five goals in four LaLiga games this season and is the only player besides Lionel Messi to score 5 goals in the first 4 LaLiga games of a season for Barcelona this century - Raphinha (BAR): Scored his second header goal of his career in top European leagues - Eric García (BAR): scored his first goal in 75 club games in his career (all leagues) - Sevilla: biggest home defeat in LaLiga since 2019 against Leganés (also 3-0) - Sevilla: winless in the last 7 home LaLiga games (0-4-3, W-L-D) vs. Barcelona Sevilla: With just one point from their first four LaLiga games and a place just above the relegation zone, Sevilla need to find form quickly. But the schedule is not exactly friendly: after their first visit to the Champions League from Manchester City (September 6), they travel to Espanyol in LaLiga (September 9) Barcelona: Xavi's side are only two points behind leaders after four games Real Madrid , but they face a difficult series of games in the next week and a half. After welcoming Viktoria Plzeň on the first matchday of the Champions League (September 7) they travel to Cadiz in LaLiga (13-13 September) on the Champions League matchday. September). 2. 13) on the second day of the Champions League. All eyes will be on Lewandowski's Bayern return: can Barcelona be the winners?
