Arsenal 1-2This website uses cookies for analytics, personalized content and ads. Please use a supported version for the best MSN experience. "United are still unbeaten against Dundee at Tannadice in 2004," says Simon McMahon, "although they have tried their best to remedy this by throwing away a two-goal lead. Finished 2-2 and United secured a place in the top six.” “United so bad Arsenal are bottling it up,” said Gary Neville on Twitter. "Game over," says Sky's Clinton Morrison. Rodrigo Moreno scores Leeds second goal behind Watford keeper Ben Foster. Rodrigo celebrates his goal. And Arsenal lose twice in a row. So they're not making Man United pay for their defeat, but they're giving Spurs a big chance. Odegaard hits the woodwork, then uses a deflection to find the net. And we finally have a home goal. Brighton keeper Robert Sanchez is hit by a deflected shot from Arsenal's Martin Odegaard. Arsenal 1-2 Brighton Save! Jack Harrison, so successful this year, secures victory with a bang from the left. Leeds now have 33 points this season and ten of those come from their last four games. Jack Harrison (left) celebrates with Crysencio Summerville after scoring Leeds United's third goal. Photo: Alex Morton/Getty Images Photo: Alex Morton/Getty Images Photo: Alex Morton/Getty Images Arsenal 1-2 Brighton They've got six minutes of added time, so there's about two to go. Odegaard sees another possibility but can't quite find Saka. Game over and season over, very likely, for Watford. They can't do anything at home yet. "It's like an impersonation farce in the Emirates," says Jeremy Dresner. Do these guys even look at the league table? Southampton 0-6 Chelsea Something has gone terribly wrong at Chelsea. They haven't scored in half an hour. "Just to add fuel to the fire," says Martin Crookall, "does anyone really want to start adding another subjective factor — i.e., does it matter? - offside?” David de Gea today called Manchester United's performance “a disgrace”. Arsenal 0-2 Brighton Arsenal got a shot on goal in 75 minutes. Plus Martinelli's illegal header, which I'm sure we'll be hearing more about. And to add to Arsenal's troubles, Tariq Lamptey comes in to replace second goal scorer Mwepu. "Chelsea fans are chanting Roman Abramovich's name," football writer John Aizlewood said on Twitter. "You sure can read a room." Watford 0-2 Leeds The second goal came from a defensive error involving Kamara and Samir, who had conspired to only beat Rodrigo to Ben Foster. Coming up: Villa-Spurs It's the 5:30pm game and Barry Glendinning is for us in the MBM. A screamer on Enock Mwepu's half volley! Watford 0-1 Leeds If Watford's season was a film it would be Nightmare At Vicarage Road. They had more shots than Leeds (8-5) and clearer chances (2-0) but only one of those eight was on target. All three of those games are now over and we still haven't scored a single home goal. "It always tickles me," says Charlie Robinson, "to see football fans tangle themselves in knots and try to justify criticism of any decision that goes against their team. Once you've typed words like "While the Arsenal goal may have been correctly ruled offside..." or "It's likely that Martinelli was just a hair's breadth offside..." you should probably reread those words and think about it a lot carefully whether you want to continue the point by arguing that the goal should have stood." Oh! Arsenal are paying a heavy price for their reshuffle as Granit Xhaka drifts out of position at left-back, releasing Dunk Mwepu, who looks up and sees Trossard in Morgen. He shoots cleanly from 12 yards out and it's the first goal Brighton have scored with their feet in eight league games. Trossard celebrates his goal with Moises Caicedo. Photo: David Klein/Reuters Photo: David Klein/Reuters Photo: David Klein/Reuters So are the Brighton fans. Photo: Mike Hewitt/Getty Images Made by Kante, who made a save from Forster and gave Werner a tap-in. Timo Werner scored his second goal of the day and Chelsea's fifth. “Shock transmission,” Ben Hayes picks up on my 4:11 post. "No wonder Chelsea are stuffing Saints when they've signed Harry Kane." Ha, sorry, I meant Kane. What Werner can do, Mount can do too. He gets his second and at this pace Southampton could settle for another 9-0. Chelsea's Mason Mount celebrates scoring their sixth goal. Photo: Peter Nicholls/Reuters Watford 0-1 Leeds Big chance for Watford! They've been better since half-time but when the chance arises Ismaila Sarr has all the old pros at the BT studio with their heads in their hands. Southampton 0-6 Chelsea It really could have been worse: Chelsea had 13 shots on target and three off - must have been Werner's three hitting the woodwork. Southampton managed one shot on target, three wide. By the way, they made one more change at half-time: Diallo for Adam Armstrong. Arsenal 0-1 Brighton Mikel Arteta, not afraid of a half-time shake, has switched to a back three. "While the Arsenal goal may have been correctly ruled offside," says Robert Speed, "one has to wonder if the offside rule is appropriate in this case. Martinelli and about 4 Brighton defenders are yards from the goal line and when Martinelli heads the ball he is way ahead of those 4 Brighton defenders. People love to argue about the complexity of the rule, but in this case (and many others) it has a somewhat nonsensical result. It should count for something, but I'm not sure if it does. Chelsea currently have 62 points and Arsenal have 55 points, both from 30 games. Spurs, also at 30, are a point behind Arsenal; they later play at Villa Park. Man United sit seventh on goal difference behind West Ham with 51 points from 31 games. At the other end of the table, Watford sit in 19th place with 23 points from 31 games, a point behind Burnley (who have two games in hand). Everton are 17th after 30 games with 28 points, three behind Leeds but with two games in hand. This is all assuming our 3pm games stay the way they are, which in two out of three cases could be quite premature. It lasted three minutes and 40 seconds. It's not good news for Gabriel Martinelli or Arsenal. Photo: Ian Walton/AP "I think it's likely that Martinelli was a hair offside," says Alex Whitney, "but I don't see how you knock something over if it's not clear and obvious (at least from every angle , which we could see ). "I've often wondered," says Peter Oh, "why iPhone users are so dogmatic about the supposed superiority of their product over all others. But as long as I can listen to Estupiñán (Pervis, Villareal left-back) on my humble phone, I don't feel like I'm missing anything. It was a loss at St. Mary's and it could have been worse. Timo Werner has hit the woodwork three times and Fraser Forster has "made two incredible saves", according to Sky's Paul Merson. Martinelli lunges at Gabriel's header but VAR checks for offside... Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli goes home but will it make it? Photo: Aaron Chown/PA This time it's Kai Havertz, after Werner. hit the post for the umpteenth time this afternoon. Southampton have a job on their hands to avoid another of those 9-0. Kai Havertz (left) celebrates with Timo Werner after Chelsea's fourth goal. Photo: Frank Augstein/AP Brighton maintain their narrow lead with some help from VAR. And we still haven't scored a home goal since Anthony Gordon won at Goodison Park. Watford are still in the quagmire thanks to Raphinha's post-hit strike. Take that, Mary Waltz, says Timo Werner while clinging to a long ball, presuming Fraser Forster is dead and showing all the composure he's lacked in the past 18 months. Timo Werner (right) waltzes past Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster and kicks the ball home for Chelsea's third. Photo: Vincent Mignott/EPA A heavy blow for Watford as Dan James wins a 50-50 and Raphinha, the best player on both sides, beats Ben Foster at his near post. Leeds United's Raphinha scores the first goal of the game. Raphinha celebrates with Rodrigo (right). Photo: Andrew Boyers/Action Images/Reuters Photo: Andrew Boyers/Action Images/Reuters Arsenal 0-1 Brighton "Arsenal have done absolutely nothing," says Chris Sutton on BT Sport, "just like they did at the Palace on Monday night." Back to Everton . "One good thing about Everton's predicament," says Ian Copestake, "if they're really still in the woods is that then they can make a paddle." Frank Lampard has many talents but I'm not sure if this is one of them. Southampton 0-4 Chelsea Ralph Hasenhuttl has to do something and he's doing it: he takes Oriol Romeu off and brings in Yan Valery to bolster the defence. It's both early in the game for a substitution and almost certainly too late. So we scored six goals in our three games and each one came from the away team. Hit the half volley. Chelsea are back in business after a bad week. Mason Mount shoots home to double Chelsea's lead “Speaking of games,” says Phil Grey, “Watford have Leeds, Brentford and Burnley at home before they play Everton at home in May (and beat them 5-2 at Goodison). Everton are still in the woods.” Arsenal 0-0 Brighton One would expect Arsenal to dominate at home against Brighton, but on paper it was very even: 52-48 possession, 1-1 shots, 118-110 passes. Sounds like Arsenal are missing Thomas Partey. Southampton 0-2 Chelsea In a very short time, Mason Mount has moved up to fourth in the PL table on goals and assists. Chelsea's Marcos Alonso sticks the ball home to open the goal. Photo: Kieran Cleeves/PA Photo: Kieran Cleeves/PA Photo: Kieran Cleeves/PA "Timo Werner," says Mary Waltz. Three goals. A PL goal this season. A huge flop compared to the expectations that are coming in, isn't it?” Yes – but Chelsea score goals from all over the pitch so it doesn't cost them much. "Some confusion among Arsenal fans," says Charles Antaki, "as Alexandre Lacazette returns to the front; The old steed is more horse than war these days, and in the eyes of some not so far from the knacker's yard. But he could still hit the net.” Yeah, he was having a weird time. He seems to be a false nine these days, like Harry Kane without the goals. Arsenal mascot Gunnersaurus cheers on the Gooners before kick-off. Photo: Alan Walter/Shutterstock Southampton 0-1 Chelsea It's Marcos Alonso's first goal since the season opened, and it was scored by Mason Mount with what seemed like marvelous skill. But the Saints didn't give up: Ward-Prowse got close with a free kick from the right. "I love MBM," says Richard Stant. "Just to be clear: on most phones it's not possible to put an umlaut over an n. It is impossible. Spın̈al Tap must remain for the pre-iPhone era.” Southampton 0-0 Chelsea Chelsea goes up the other end and hits the post! It's Timo Werner, with a low shot, from a Southampton corner on the break. Southampton 0-0 Chelsea An early free-kick for the incomparable James Ward-Prowse but it's too deep for a shot and Chelsea easily cope with his cross. All three of our games were blown. Correction: Everton are not over the hill. Rick Harris (2:36) makes a very good point about the game plan. Everton are yet to play Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal twice and Leicester twice. Burnley's images are softer and they have a game in hand - against Norwich tomorrow. Everton should stay up, but we've been saying that all season. "Everton's win will help Spurs if United are ever a threat," says Yash Gupta. "Lampard stays for next season - more fun for everyone not linked to Everton." Ha. Granit Xhaka continues to function as a makeshift left-back - and will be relieved to find Tariq Lamptey on the bench. “I agree United can't fight for fourth place,” says Rick Harris, “but looking at Everton's run-in I'd say they're going to need a lot more than a win against the easiest 'big' to come Team". United looks like the season can't end soon enough and it's hard to see where this squad is headed next. If Ten Hag becomes the new coach, he would be well advised to bring his best 11 players with him.” Tough but fair. From our Everton correspondent Mary Waltz. "There can be no slander towards United today," she says. “Since my Everton team is about to be eliminated, the Red Devils gave us three points. That kind of generosity should be applauded.” Ha. I know United were poor but the goal came from a big fat deflection so maybe the generosity was on the part of the gods. “It's Derby day in Dundee,” he writes, “as United are looking to confirm their place in the top six with three points against a Dundee side who are almost certain to be relegated if they lose today. United haven't lost to their neighbors in Tannadice in 18 years, which makes me as nervous as a Spïnal Tap drummer. There's also an Edinburgh derby at Tynecastle and it's Aberdeen v Ross County, Livingston v Motherwell and champions-elect Celtic v St Johnstone.” Thank you Simon. Everton have maintained their 1-0 lead against Manchester United thanks largely to Jordan Pickford who was immense. That means Everton are probably out of the woods and United are probably out of the Champions League race. It's an old tradition that's slowly shrinking, like an old man. There are only three games, but all count: two are part of the scramble for the top four, and the third is a dogfight in relegation. Arsenal v Brighton After being beaten by Palace on Monday, Arsenal are in dire need of a win. Brighton are in dire need of a goal: they have scored just one in their last seven league games, having scored 11 in the previous seven. They haven't scored against Arsenal since 2019/20 but they did the double over them back then so they have reason to believe - and Tariq Lamptey's eyes will light up at the thought of facing Nuno Tavares. Southampton v Chelsea It's the Peter Osgood derby! Southampton, otherwise so difficult to beat at St. Mary's, have lost two home games in a row - against Newcastle and Watford of all places. Chelsea, too, had back-to-back shocks at home, falling against Brentford and Real Madrid. But their away form has been impressive all season, with ten wins out of 15, as has Liverpool. Watford v Leeds The Premier League's most experienced manager, Roy Hodgson, against the least, Jesse Marsch. Watford are in dire straits and desperate to win after Burnley's midweek resurgence. Leeds are in the clover after picking up seven points in three games.

Moxley victorious in huge main event.

This episode of AEW Rampage featured both members of the Blackpool Combat Club in action in separate individual competitions. (Author: Gardener)

At yesterday's edition of AEW Rampage, both members of the BCC were in action as Bryan Danielson took on Wheeler Yuta in a hard-hitting main event against Trent Beretta and Jon Moxley. Recent confrontations between Best Friends member Wheeler Yuta and the Blackpool Combat Club intensified when Yuta began cracking and exploding at his friends. Danielson attempted to continue the BCC's dominance and eliminate Trent. Even as hard as Trent fought, he would suffer the same fate as the majority of Danielson's opponents and have his head kicked in. Danielson would finish Trent with the LeBell lock in a statement win. After weeks of frustration thanks to Team Taz, Swerve was about to announce the win. However, Swerve's speed proved too much for QT as Swerve secured a clear victory with a back of the head heel kick. Willow, who narrowly missed out on the Interim ROH Women's Championship match at Supercard Of Honor 2022, wanted to avenge her loss and cement her place in the tournament. Coming out of the gate strong, Willow demonstrated her power on Velvet and publicized her presence in All Elite Wrestling as she showed herself to fans. As the match progressed, Velvet faced the Just Desserts, but Willow kicked out. Willow would regain some momentum, but a corkscrew kick from Velvet would give her a big win and secure her spot in the tournament. Jon Moxley defeats Wheeler Yuta- While the Blackpool Combat Club continues to scout Yuta. Jon Moxley wanted to teach Yuta another lesson about violence to stop his momentum. The violence was underway from the start when, after a hard exchange of blows between the two, Moxley saw Moxley slam Yula's head against the steel steps, tearing him wide open. A shocked Moxley would quickly capitalize on that kick, putting Yuta to sleep with a tightly synchronized Sleeperhold. After the match, Yuta received the ultimate sign of respect from Blackpool Combat Club when Yuta shook hands with William Regal.

Winners, grades, reactions and highlights from April 8th

Welcome to the Bleacher Report coverage and recap of AEW Rampage on April 8th. After his big Supercard of Honor win, new ROH pure champion Wheeler Yuta took on Jon Moxley on Friday's show... (Author: Gardener)

April 8thFollowing his big win at Supercard of Honor, new ROH pure champion Wheeler Yuta took on Jon Moxley on Friday's show. Another member of Best Friends was also on duty when Trent Beretta squared off against one of the men trying to recruit Yuta to Blackpool Combat Club, Bryan Danielson. Willow Nightingale faced Red Velvet and Swerve Strickland fought QT Marshall. Let's take a look at everything that happened during Friday's show. Rampage began with Danielson and Beretta already waiting in the ring for the referee to ring the bell. Danielson started out in control, but Beretta didn't let him hold the upper hand for long. This fight felt a little more personal than usual because of what's going on with Yuta and the Blackpool Combat Club. Though Beretta doesn't seem to have anything to do with Yuta, he also seems to have some kind of grudge with BCC about it. Danielson has been lauded for his technical prowess for years, but people shouldn't sleep on the Beretta. He's long been a great in-ring performer and it was a lot of fun to see him get a chance to show it against the likes of The American Dragon. Beretta had a few moments when he was close to victory, but the result was never in question. Danielson always wanted to win, and he did with the Lebell Lock. It was great to have William Regal as a commentary. He offered some good insight and commended the regular AEW commentators for making his job easier. Beretta hit the steel ring steps hard in one place. Danielson does heel things like jumping jacks to celebrate prematurely, but the crowd loves him too much to boo anything he does, especially since he's now paired with Moxley and Regal. There was a scary point when Beretta countered a superplex and landed on Danielson's neck. It didn't seem to do any major damage, but it didn't look like fun either. In the next match, Swerve faced Marshall in singles competition. While The Nightmare Factory head coach went on offense early, Strickland used his speed to quickly gain the upper hand. AEW could easily have booked this as a short fight in which Swerve managed an easy win, but this ended up being more competitive than expected. Marshall controlled most of the action during the commercial break, but Swerve began his comeback shortly after we returned to the show. This was a good but unforgettable match. This was done to give Swerve a little win-loss record and get him before he and Keith Lee take on Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks. Swerve won with a kick to the back of the head. Before the match, there was a backstage segment where Lexy Nair attempted to interview Hook. Starks announced a tag match where he and Hobbs would take on Lee and Swerve next Wednesday. That's supposed to be a lot of fun. Nightingale and Velvet battled it out in a qualifier over who would get a spot in the women's Owen Hart Foundation tournament. They used a lot of holds, counters and takedowns to stay competitive without feeling like any of them were more of a heel. Velvet was the first to land multiple punches in the corner, which was probably the right choice because Nightingale is too loved by her fans to be the heel in any equation. It seemed like both women bagged this match at a few different points, making it a lot less predictable as time went on. Despite this, Velvet managed to get the win. Velvet tried to dodge a moonsault, but Nightingale hit her anyway. Nightingale got some props from the announcers for her appearance on last Friday's Supercard of Honor. Velvet started acting a little more like a heel towards the end. Maybe she'll turn around sometime during the Owen Hart Foundation tournament. The Main Event saw newly crowned ROH Pure Champion Yuta take on Moxley. Yuta attacked Moxley as he was making his appearance by doing a suicide dive. They fought their way into the crowd before the game could even officially begin. Yuta stayed in the fight most of the time, but when Moxley broke him up by throwing him onto the steel steps, Yuta was on the defense, trying his best to put some distance between himself and Mox. This was by far the best game of the evening. It showcased Yuta's skills after his successful Supercard of Honor performance in winning the ROH Pure Championship, making him look tougher than ever. Yuta managed to break out of the paradigm shift twice, but he couldn't stop himself from passing out to a rear naked choke. This was an absolute hit of a match and a fantastic close to the show. Yuta was already seen as a solid worker by most fans, but now people will see just how good he is on the performance side of the business. Regal shook his hand to end the show on a high note. The jump Yuta Mox did during his performance looked amazing on camera. Moxley told Yuta to hack him and then immediately kicked his face, which was hilarious. The point where Yuta slammed into Mox to throw him through a table looked way better than most ring table AEW finishes. Danielson and Regal coming down after the match to pay respects to Yuta was a great moment.

Jon Moxley vs. Wheeler Yuta

Bryan Danielson vs Trent Beretta and a qualifier for the Owen Hart Tournament are also on the schedule. (Author: Gardener)

Jon MoxleyThe night's main event pits Jon Moxley against ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta in a non-title match, while Bryan Danielson meets Trent Beretta in the opener. Yuta has been pushing to get into the BCC for several weeks, but has yet to push through with team leader William Regal. He faced Danielson last week and suffered a defeat. On Dynamite, Best Friends teammate Beretta told Yuta he would show him that he could teach him the same things the BCC could by challenging Danielson. The third qualifier for the Owen Hart Women's Tournament occurs when Red Velvet meets Willow Nightingale in their AEW-TV debut. Swerve Strickland will return to Rampage when he takes on QT Marshall in singles, while TNT Champion Scorpio Sky will deliver an in-ring promo with Ethan Page and Dan Lambert. Excalibur, Taz and Ricky Starks commented. William Regal joined the commentary team for the opener. Beretta took Danielson over the ropes and to the ground with a victory roll, but when he followed up with a slingshot plancha, Danielson kicked him in the chest. Danielson attempted a tope suicida, but Beretta caught Danielson on the floor with a back suplex. Danielson sent Beretta onto the ringside steel staircase and the show went into a split-screen hiatus. Back from the break, Danielson chinlocked the Beretta. Danielson hit a snap suplex while Regal berated Beretta for hanging out with the other best friends. Danielson was caught at the top by Beretta and overwhelmed. Danielson and Beretta got back up and traded chops. Beretta ducked an enziguri and defeated Danieslon with a German suplex. Beretta went for a DDT, but Danielson countered with a rolling elbow. A head and arm capture suplex was counted as two. Danielson lured an Inverted Dragon Sleeper, but Beretta got to the ropes to suffer a rope break. Danielson fastened a tie and kneed Beretta in the head. Danielson went for a piledriver, but Beretta countered with a backdrop. Danielson went for a top rope background suplex, but Beretta shifted his weight and turned him into a modified bulldog for a near miss. Danielson came back with kicks, but Beretta countered with forearms. Beretta caught Danielson with a half and half suplex and a stiff lasso for two. Danielson hits Beretta with the Busaiku knee. After Danielson hit a Gotch-style piledriver, Beretta was done. Danielson kicked Beretta's head and then used an inverted LeBelle lock (which is basically Danielson trying to twist Beretta's head off), and Danielson took the win. – Lexi Nair tried to interview Hook in the dressing room, who was eating chips, then left. As Hook was about to throw the chips away, Danhausen jumped out of the trash can! Danhausen again attempted to curse Hook, who threw away the chips and left. - Scorpio Sky started cutting a promo in the ring but was quickly interrupted by Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti. Dan Lambert and Ethan Page ran down Guevara and Conti and were cheered for. This match lasted about a minute before they did a commercial, but before they went on the break, Strickland had a clean spot where he was thrown over the top but made a hand jump on the apron and landed on his feet. After the courtship, Strickland was in control and landed an elbow on the back of Marshall's head. Marshall hit a pop-up uppercut and went for the diamond cutter, but Strickland countered. A flatliner and a kick to the back of the head gave Strickland the win. After the match, Ricky Starks challenged Strickland to a tag match for Dynamite Week. Strickland and Keith Lee v. Nightingale missed a moonsault and Velvet hit a pair of sling blades and then a hook kick for two. Nightingale hit a spinebuster for two. Nightingale hit a jump (which Velvet sold like a champ) and a cannonball in the corner for two. Nightingale went for a suplex but Velvet rolled out of him and into a modified backstabber, then hit another corkscrew kick for the win. Velvet did a good job cheering on the crowd and taking in their boos after the match. Red Velvet qualified for the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament with this win. – Main Event Promo Time: Wheeler Yuta had the ROH Pure Championship slung over his shoulder and thinks the third time against Moxley will be the stimulus. But Moxley isn't there to show respect to Yuta, he's there to spill Yuta's guts all over the mat. Yuta hit a tope suicida when Moxley made his entrance and fought through the crowd with Moxley. Yuta had the advantage in the brawl on the floor. When they finally got to ringside, Moxley hit a release German suplex and a vertical suplex to take control. Moxley hacked Yuta in the corner, but Yuta fought back with punches of her own. Moxley came back with a boot and scratched Yuta's face. Yuta fired back with more chops and Moxley answered with a headbutt. Moxley throws Yuta to the ground with the backdrop. On the floor, Moxley Curb Yuta stomped into the ring steps. This broke up Yuta and the show went on its final split-screen break. Back from break, Yuta wears the crimson mask. Yuta sent Moxley down and then came off the top rope with a crossbody that sent Moxley through the timekeeper's table. The crowd chanted "Fight Forever!" while the doctor examined Yuta at ringside. Yuta and Moxley made it back to the ring and Yuta hit a pair of rolling German suplexes. Yuta blocked the lasso and countered with a modified angle slam, then kicked Moxley's head. The crowd now feverishly stood behind Yuta. Yuta hit the frog splash for two and then countered with a crossface. Moxley countered the crossface with a cradle for two and then hit the King Kong lasso for another two count. Moxley tried to pound on the cut, but that only infuriated Yuta. Yuta came from the lead but Moxley caught him with a kick and paradigm shift. Moxley then locked in the Bulldog choke. Moxley spun around and kneed Yuta in the head. Moxley charged at Yuta, who rocked him for a quick near fall. Then Yuta slipped behind Mox and locked in a bulldog choke himself! Yuta converted into a rear naked choke, but Moxley rolled through and elbowed Yuta. Moxley then hit the Death Rider (High Angle Paradigm Shift), and that only got two! Moxley used another bulldog choke and that ultimately gave Moxley the win. After the match, William Regal and Bryan Danielson came down. Yuta painted the initials "BCC" on his chest with his own blood, and Moxley told him, "Now the real work begins!" An hour-long show with games as fantastic as the opening and main event of this one can only be a thumbs up be up.

Winners, news and post-WrestleMania 38 notes

WWE SmackDown results after WrestleMania 38. (Author: Gardener)

post-WrestleMania 38WWE SmackDown after WrestleMania promoted the next move for Roman Reigns, Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss in a post-WrestleMania "Happy Talk" and reportedly Marcel Barthel's debut as "Ludwig". News broke earlier in the day from WrestleVotes about WWE's "worst" name change, which turned out to be Barthel's new name. Fans were huge at the idea of a Ronda Rousey rematch. After being denied an "I Quit" match against Charlotte Flair, Ronda Rousey sent Adam Pearce a paper message through some henchman. The New Day had an entertaining pre-match promo in which Woods got over the term "Reset!" According to Woods, WWE records reset after WrestleMania, much like AEW records reset every year. Marcel Barthel's official new name is Ludwig Kaiser. During a backstage segment, Sami Zayn got angry for saying he hates cheese. There were loud chants for Madcap Moss, but when he told his jokes, he was booed. Then, when Happy Corbin said Madcap's jokes weren't funny, the crowd booed. The announcement team laughed at jokes made by Madcap Moss. Fans on the Fiserv forums chanted "Cheese!" at Sami Zayn. This match was a long game of cat and mouse until Sami Zayn successfully escaped through the crowd. After that match, Lacey Evans shared her authentic ex-Marine story and it was great. It was one of those rare comebacks/debuts where the superstar didn't have to change his name and it worked like a charm. Liv Morgan is the only person in this whole industry who doesn't know that Rhea Ripley is going to hit her up next Monday. Michael Cole called Naomi & Sasha the first Black WWE Women's Tag Team Champions and Naomi made him say it again. The word "black" is such a dirty word sometimes in this industry (and this country), and Naomi was like, "Say it with your chest!" This might have been the biggest win of Liv Morgan's career, only to have it all collapse in three days . Roman Reigns said he wants the Usos to be Raw and SmackDown Champions. The fans sang along loudly to Shinsuke Nakamura's music, but I was surprised to see that he was the next challenger for Reigns.

The Bloodline attacks Shinsuke Nakamura

WWE SmackDown Results, Grades: The Bloodline takes on Shinsuke Nakamura for Roman Reigns, GUNTHER debuts and Madcap Moss takes on Corbin. (Author: Gardener)

Shinsuke NakamuraWWE and Universal Champion Roman Reigns appears to have found his next challenger in the form of SmackDown star Shinsuke Nakamura. The former Intercontinental Champion was promoted to Tribal Chief at the conclusion of Friday night's show after Reigns gave The Usos the hefty task of unifying the two brands' respective tag team titles. The championship leader came out with his cousins to wrap up SmackDown this week and found that his historic win over Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania doesn't leave him with much to accomplish. However, he sees a way for The Bloodline to grow, and he wants Jimmy and Jey Uso - the reigning SmackDown Tag Team Champions - to go to Raw and win the RK-Bro titles so they too can be united. He pointed out that Nakamura needs direction after Rick Boogs' devastating injury at WrestleMania, and that's why he's going to offer him some Bloodline love - which leads to a hug from his seemingly new rival, followed by stereo superkicks from The Usos. This was a great way to establish Reigns' next move, first in terms of its cousins possibly combining the tag team gold, which looks like another step towards a unified roster of champions for both brands. Meanwhile, he also has his next challenger seemingly set for WrestleMania Backlash, and there's plenty of history with Nakamura dating back to the artist's Royal Rumble win in 2018. SmackDown began with Ronda Rousey insisting that she beat Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania and challenge Champion to a rematch at Backlash in an I-Quit match. The Queen shrugged and insisted that Baddest Woman On The Planet should go to the end of the row - and Rousey was later told by Adam Pearce she would have a reply over the weekend. Xavier Woods scored a small package win over Butch after a decent move that showed the fire in the man formerly known as Pete Dunne, the fire in the man formerly known as Pete Dunne, and it helped to establish the new character of the bruiserweight alongside Sheamus and Ridge Holland. Backstage, Sami Zayn insisted he wanted to get back on track after losing to Johnny Knoxville at WrestleMania and he told Pearce he would face the next star to walk through the door - who happened to be Drew McIntyre. Zayn attempted to change his make, but the match came later in the night when he eventually escaped, creating a very entertaining feud between two big names. Next, it was Happy Talk time as Happy Corbin blamed Madcap Moss for his loss to McIntyre at WrestleMania and shattered his friend's jokes. He told one last joke to end their team, which amidst the roar of the crowd led to a brawl between them before Madcap destroyed the set and potentially missed WWE's next big babyface. Elsewhere, Lacey Evans shared the first chapter of her story on the road to a big comeback. In the final game of the night, Liv Morgan scored a big win over Sasha Banks as they put up an entertaining duel that saw Liv and her partner Rhea Ripley - who was off ringside - come out some momentum before beating Legit Boss and Naomi compete for the gold. Roman Reigns says tag title unification is next for The Bloodline

Reigns said the Usos needed to go to Raw to unify the SmackDown and Raw tag titles (Author: Gardener)

Roman ReignsFor Roman Reigns, being the undisputed champion with his cousins The Usos by his side with the SmackDown Tag Team Championship isn't enough. While Reigns detailed the next step for The Bloodline on Friday's SmackDown, Reigns said the Usos need to go to Raw to unify the tag titles just as he unified WWE and the Universal Championships by unifying Brock Lesnar defeated at WrestleMania. Reigns was finally interrupted by a surprise presence as Shinsuke Nakamura came to the ring for a confrontation. However, The Bloodline was one step ahead of Nakamura and ended the show triumphantly. Roman Reigns closed the show with an in-ring promo with The Usos and Paul Heyman. Reigns noted that he's a two-title man, but the Usos are two two-title men. To show the greatness that Reigns said his cousins are capable of, he said the Usos needed to unify the tag team titles. Reigns said the Usos had to go to Raw and get the titles to cement The Bloodline with all the titles. Then Shinsuke Nakamura's music started and he made his way to the ring in the absence of Rick Boogs, who sustained a quadriceps injury at WrestleMania. Reigns cut Nakamura off before he could speak. Reigns said he understands how Nakamura feels after losing his partner and offered Nakamura a hug, only for the Usos to hit with a superkick and knock Nakamura down to end the show. WWE certainly did a lot of work to achieve Usos vs. RK-Bro, with the teams meeting on Raw for several weeks. The idea of unifying the tag belts is certainly appealing. However, a short program in which Nakamura challenges Reigns is more attractive. There are far worse ways to kill a few weeks than Nakamura getting a main event program. * Ronda Rousey challenged Charlotte Flair to an "I quit" match at WrestleMania Backlash. Flair replied that she didn't stop at WrestleMania and that "The Baddest Woman on the Planet" was a myth. * Defeated Xavier Woods. Butch via pinfall with a small package. * Gunther defeated. Joe Alonzo via pinfall with a powerbomb. Ludwig Kaiser (Marcel Barthel with a new name) and Gunther made their SmackDown debut when Kaiser introduced Gunther before the squash match. * Raquel Rodriguez (former NXT Women's Champion Raquel Gonzalez) made her SmackDown debut. * Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss got into a fight during "Happy Talk" when Corbin told Moss it was his fault Corbin lost to Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania. * Drew McIntyre defeated. Zayn told Adam Pearce he would wrestle the next man out of the dressing room to rebuild his reputation after losing to Johnny Knoxville. McIntyre was that man, and after plenty of McIntyre dominance, Zayn ran out of the ring and through the crowd for the countout. * Defeated Liv Morgan. Sasha Banks via pinfall when she countered a superplex into a pin. Morgan and Rhea Ripley challenge Banks and Naomi for the women's tag titles on Monday.
