Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards betting odds & tips on Friday night

The Detroit Pistons host the New York Knicks on Friday night and we've got the odds and best bets on the action. (Author: Gardener)

Detroit PistonsPickswise provides exclusive sports betting content to MLive.com including tips, analysis, tools, games and sports betting offers to help bettors get in on the action. Reaching the 20-win mark seemed a little unlikely as the Detroit Pistons started the NBA season losing 24 of their first 28 games. However, they achieved that milestone by defeating the Hawks on Wednesday, earning their biggest win of the season with a 122-101 record and improving to 20-53. They have their sixth chance of the season to win back-to-back games on Friday night when the 30-42 Washington Wizards visit Little Caesars Arena. It's unusual for the Pistons to be the stronger team in a game this season, but that's the case in their home game against the Washington Wizards, who lost their eighth straight away game in a 114-102 loss to Milwaukee last night . They've lost 8 of their last 9 overall, with the only win in that run coming when they recovered from 16 points down at home to beat the Lakers. This game will be the second leg of a back-to-back and to make matters worse for the Wizards, they won't have Kyle Kuzma, who has been their best player since star Bradley Beal lost for the season. They've only covered the span twice in the last 9 games and Detroit are the recommended team to cover a modest number at home. New players can click here to sign up using this DraftKings Sportsbook promo code and claim this $1000 deposit bonus. They've won 6 of the teams' last 7 meetings, including all 3 this season, but they've rewarded bettors who have assisted them in distribution just once in their last 7 trips to Little Caesars Arena. Detroit's 21-point home win over Atlanta should have given the team a major confidence boost in their attempt to beat the Wizards tonight. The Pistons have covered the spread in 9 of their last 11 games and won 4 of their last 6 against Southeast Division teams. The Wizards are struggling a lot and are really struggling on the road, while the Pistons have gone 20-15-1 against the distribution at home this season. The Washington Wizards have only 97 and 102 points in their last two games without Kyle Kuzma, and one of those was against the struggling Houston Rockets. However, their games against the Pistons have been higher this season and exceeding the game total of 219.5 points is the recommended play for Friday's game. The Wizards have averaged 112.6 points per game in their 3 games against Detroit this season, so it makes sense to expect them to match their season average of 104.9 away. Click here and use the Caesars Sportsbook promo code to sign up for a new Caesars Sportsbook account and get up to $1,000 risk free bet. The Pistons have improved their scoring over the past few games, averaging at least 113 points in each of their last 4 games, 122 of which were against the Hawks in the last. The game has come to an end in 9 of Washington's last 12 games and in 2 of the teams' 3 meetings this season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is now the all-time leading scorer in Bucks history; Where does it rank in other categories?

How close is Giannis Antetokounmpo to becoming the Bucks' all-time leader in all five major stat categories? Check where he falls. (Author: Gardener)

Giannis AntetokounmpoGiannis Antetokounmpo has secured his place as one of the greatest players in NBA history. And now he has a mark that establishes him as the all-time greatest in Milwaukee Bucks history. With 44 points on March 31 against Brooklyn, Giannis Kareem surpassed Abdul-Jabbar for most points in Bucks history. Abdul-Jabbar only played six seasons in Milwaukee but left an indelible mark with three MVP awards and a championship. Of course, Abdul-Jabbar asked Milwaukee for a trade to pursue what he felt was best personally (a sore lingers in Milwaukee sports fandom). Giannis decided to stay, signed the Supermax expansion and promptly won the franchise's first title since Abdul-Jabbar's reign. Here's Giannis on the Bucks' all-time leaderboard: Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo dunks the ball in the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 in Philadelphia. Antetokounmpo made his mark in spectacular fashion, delivering back-to-back 40-point performances in clutch road wins. His 44-point performance against Brooklyn sealed it with a 3-point tie on March 31 that tied the game in the dying seconds (allowing the Bucks to win in overtime). Kareem Abdul-Jabbar didn't have the 3-pointer available, but it's not like Giannis usually shoots over the bow. That put Giannis at 30.1 points per game for the year with six games remaining in the season. It's the second stat category Antetokounmpo has secured in franchise history. The all-time leading scorer in Bucks history for nearly 50 years is also the all-time leading scorer in NBA history (38,387 points). Antetokounmpo has already had more years in the NBA than Abdul-Jabbar's six seasons in Milwaukee, but Abdul-Jabbar arrived at 22 as a fully realized talent, poised to take over the league immediately. He never averaged less than 27 points with the Bucks and picked up 30 points a game in four seasons. Right now, he has one other advantage over Antetokounmpo — three MVP awards during his tenure at Bucks from 1969-1975. He won those awards in 1971, 1972, and 1974, though Antetokounmpo now has what he really wants (and Abdul-Jabbar already had it)...Middleton rubs shoulders with the franchise's all-time greats, surpassing the 10,000-point mark Club earlier this season. On March 29 against Philadelphia, he passed Hall of Fame finalist Marques Johnson to move up to seventh all-time in the Bucks' standings. Bill Walton and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar compete for position in a game in 1975. As with points, there's no one who can match Abdul-Jabbar in the rebound department. He's never gone under 14 per game in Milwaukee, and Antetokounmpo has only averaged double-digits in the last three seasons. Antetokounmpo has been second for a while now, although obviously he still has work to do. His rebounds fell from 13.6 in 2019-20 to 11.0 last year (and back to 11.7 this season). With 5 more games, he would end the year at 6,164. It would be an extreme reach for him to overtake Abdul-Jabbar with a full season next year. Paul Pressey, at 6-foot-5, was considered the first point forward in the NBA. When you think about the "original point forward," you might picture Marques Johnson or Paul Pressey. But either way, the Bucks were involved in cultivating that concept, and the lineage continued with what Antetokounmpo has demonstrated at times throughout his career. Pressey played at Milwaukee from 1982 through 1990, averaging 5.6 assists per game and had five straight seasons in which he averaged 6.6 or more. RELATED: A look at some of the top Bucks value picks (17 or fewer) in the NBA draft Antetokounmpo went from No. 5 to No. 3 this season on this 5.9 assists-per-game list last season, the best fit his career. He has an average of 5.8 in 2021/22 and that would be another 29 over the next 5 games giving him 3,027 for the season. It's pretty clear he'll still be a few hundred behind Pressey but will be able to reach that mark next season. Middleton passed Buckner on March 19 so he will finish the year in the top five in that division and pass Brian Winters in early 2022-23. Quinn Buckner, who faced Kansas City in 1979, is the all-time leader of the Bucks steals. If you took Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's steal totals from his last two years in Milwaukee and extrapolated them to six, he wouldn't be in the top 10, but Bob Dandridge would have 699 under the same formula and would be in the top 10 for sure. Buckner , the man officially at the helm, played six seasons at Milwaukee from 1976 to 1982 (before Paul Pressey comes into play). The 1976 draft No. 7 was selected to the All-Defensive team four times and averaged 2.3 swipes a year during his Bucks career. The point guard, perhaps a little underrated in Bucks history, also had 5.2 assists a year, but the Bucks traded him to Boston's Dave Cowens from the Bucks in the 1982 playoffs in 1982. He will be the year after that Finishing almost 300 behind Buckner's mark year (and nearly three 70-game-a-year seasons are still needed to top). The other problem is Middleton, who is accumulating steals at a pace just behind Antetokounmpo, and who is only just ahead. It's obvious that Antetokounmpo will be in Milwaukee longer than Middleton, but they will be side by side for the foreseeable future. Giannis moved past Brian Winters that same night for No. 6 on the list in which he became Milwaukee's all-time block leader, and Middleton thereafter moved past Robertson to fourth. Milwaukee's Alton Lister was at the top of the Bucks' blocked shots list until Giannis Antetokounmpo jumped in front of him, although blocks weren't an official statistic for most of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's time on the team. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is still seventh on the list despite only counting two Bucks seasons. If we extrapolate the number of blocks Abdul-Jabbar amassed in his first six seasons when the stats were actually counted (1973-79) to his career with the Bucks, his 1,595 total would be the all-time leader in the franchise Story. Lopez has traditionally been a three-figure blocker most seasons, so it made sense that he would at least get past Abdul-Jabbar this season. He finally picked up a few punches against Minnesota on March 19. Triple-doubles: 29 (the first in franchise history). Abdul-Jabbar is second at eight, but remember that blocks and assists have not been counted in four of his six seasons in Milwaukee, so Antetokounmpo may actually have had competition in other circumstances. Defensive rebounds: 4,995 (first in franchise history). It's not close, although Khris Middleton (2.703) is now up to second while Andrew Bogut is third with 2.662. Free throws: 3,473 (second in franchise history). Sidney Moncrief's 3,505 is the gold standard, but Antetokounmpo could still sneak that out this season. It's probably no surprise that Antetokounmpo now ranks first in free-throw attempts with 4,837 to overtake Moncrief's 4,214 for the top spot. This article originally appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Giannis Antetokounmpo is now the all-time leading scorer in Bucks history; Where does it rank in other categories?

Foolish Friday – Is America Working?

Non-Farm Payrolls are published at 8:30 am. It's expected to add 500,000 new jobs in March and remember, that's particularly impressive given that our population hasn't grown at all since 2020 and we typically need 150,000 a month to employ just 2 million new Americans a year . (Author: Gardener)

Foolish FridayIt's expected to add 500,000 new jobs in March and remember, that's particularly impressive given that our population hasn't grown at all since 2020 and we typically need 150,000 a month to employ just 2 million new Americans a year . So 500,000 new jobs with no population growth means LOTS of people will be paid, and with minimum wages also rising (we'll get wage reports too) it means US consumers have a lot more money to spend. Personal income was up 0.5% in February but unfortunately PCE inflation was up 0.6% - so wages aren't keeping up with inflation and that's scary which is why personal spending was up just 0.2% have risen - as consumers start to cut back and reject these higher prices. Such a retreat is a recession, and recessions make people sad, and prolonged sadness about their economic situation can lead to DEPRESSION, which is where that term came from - it's an attitude that's just like a financial crisis - people just don't want to spend more . But we're still a long way from that, because there are a lot of jobs out there and people whose wages in their current job aren't keeping up with inflation have had it pretty easy to quit that job and get a better one - hence the "big one". resignation”, in the middle of which we find ourselves. Believe me, it's way better than a Great Depression - so have fun finding better paying jobs folks! As you can see from the chart income is not keeping pace with spending so eventually spending will have to be cut and consider these spending levels have been stimulated by stimulus for the last two years but it's been a full year since Biden gave us $1.9 trillion in the American Rescue Plan, which was $1,400 per person, so about 5% of the average family wage last year, but it was also 10% of our TOTAL GDP as a stimulus - in one year GDP growth was 5.7% – 4.3% without stimulus. Unfortunately, however, inflation has reared its ugly head and real hourly earnings have shrunk at an alarming rate for all workers. Over the past year, real average hourly earnings (adjusted for inflation) for Americans fell from $11.41/hr. to $11.11/hr, and that affects ALL 165 million workers, so 165 million x 35 hour average work week x 52 weeks x 0.30 less wages is $90 billion LESS Real Dollars made by the existing workforce will halve $210 billion worth of new wages – SHRINK! 8:30am update: 431,000 jobs were added in March, that's a 14% loss, but not that bad, but less is less, but it's not less enough to take the Fed off the table as the worst kind of Inflation is wage inflation because it is not. That doesn't help our Corporate Masters at all, does it? So the Fed will fight wage inflation with everything it's got, and adding 431,000 jobs to a stagnant population means a lot of wage pressures - ultimately. Remember, our corporate masters don't care that real wages don't keep up with inflation - to them, more is more and it affects their bottom line, and earnings shrinkage is the worst kind of shrinkage there is! Home sales are down 3 straight months and now car sales are down 16% yoy - both jobs pay a lot of commissions and now a lot less than they used to. And it's no wonder home sales are slowing dramatically, as the average 30-year mortgage has risen to 4.67% from 3% last year and the Fed has only just begun to hike rates. We've discussed this in our webinars and it's happening faster than we thought and it doesn't bode well for home sales in the future as people aren't buying a house they are buying a mortgage and a 50% rate hike in a year with another 50%, promised by the Fed for 2022 is a lot to swallow in an unstimulated economy. People are excited about these housing markets, but what is happening in the housing market is very similar to what is happening in the market as LESS people are buying houses and paying more for them. Not the top 1% - they move when they feel like it and don't even shy away from the prices, so fewer people in the bottom 99% who buy their cheap homes are disappearing from the market and THAT'S what's going on average selling price increases of houses that are still transacting. Let's say $220,000 in 2010 so $440,000 would be up 100% and we're in the process of WITH interest rates going up so I think it's pretty INEVITABLE that over the next 18 months we're going to have a correction in the housing market of about 20 % will experience. Unfortunately for homebuyers, this price correction will be canceled out by rising interest rates, and homes will no longer be affordable.

it's your good news of Friday

It's your good news for Friday! In recent years I have had (Author: Gardener)

FridayOver the last few years I've had what looked like a "dream job" on paper, but in reality was becoming increasingly unsustainable and crazier. Drama Short: Major structural changes that I couldn't control, but which had serious negative effects on my ability to do my job; a boss who, despite being a lovable person, never missed an opportunity to make a decision; and a growing realization that I had done everything I could on my own and that staying there would only have worsening consequences for my mental health and family life. I've been cautiously searching since late 2019 and then when things got even worse in spring 2021 I intensified my search and tried to be selective about where I applied to a) not end up in this situation again and b) not breaking down bridges if I could avoid it. I was a finalist or semi-finalist in most of the jobs I applied for, but never received a specific offer. Thanks to all the advice here, I've been able to negotiate my salary at the top of their range (instead of the middle) and a few other things in a very dramatic, stress-free manner. I've been working in a new organization for about a month, in a completely different sub-field of my specialty, and I'm so happy! My team is collaborative and supportive while also appreciating my special skills and background. My boss and grand boss are both very excited to have me on board and want to make sure I have everything I need to be successful. And (I still can't believe this) my boss insisted that in my first month on the job, all she expected from me was to talk to a lot of different people and learn as much as I could about how my organization works in the world. Your good news on Friday was one of the things that gave me hope through my long drudgery of feeling stuck in a job that was bad for me - thank you for all you do!" 2. "Me I've been reading for a long time and wanted to write to you to say thank you. I recently decided that I want to take a big step professionally and change industries completely. Making a big change - a whole new industry and a new job focus rolled into one - I really relied on your advice on cover letters and interviews. Since my resume alone would not stand out in a sea of resumes with more direct accurate experience, I made sure my cover letter has its own voice and explained why I thought my tangentially related experience would carry over and actually make me strong would be contenders with a unique background. Instead of downplaying my differences, I highlighted them and it worked! I started getting interviews and I decided to go to everyone to practice and see what I could learn, bearing in mind what you say about interviews being a two-way street. I learned to decline follow-up interviews when the hours, pay, or work structure weren't what I wanted, and treat it all as a learning experience and good interview practice so I can be more confident when the right thing comes up...which it did! I'm starting a new position in about 2 weeks and the hiring team said my unique experience and clear cover letter kept them coming back to me. I wasn't nervous at all during the interview because I had practiced and approached it as a conversation, not an interrogation. 3. "I last changed jobs at the beginning of the pandemic because I thought it would not only be a way out of an increasingly dire situation, but really something that seemed interesting and could be some kind of long-term business. That turned out to be wrong - it was a start-up plagued by low pay (both for the field and the role), poor management, lack of processes, whatever. When my boss approached me in January to put more on my plate when I already felt like I was drowning, I realized something had to change. The final interview was a lot more complicated than I'm used to, but instead of feeling intimidated I felt confident and ready to show what I could bring to the table. But beyond that, I will do work that interests me, in an industry that excites me, with people working on incredible things. I've been reading Ask a Manager for years, but it never ceases to amaze me how accurate your advice (and that of the commenter) is, from questioning to termination to day-to-day (or not-so-day-to-day) handling! ) situations at work. 4. "I worked in academia for almost 5 years and was unhappy most of the time but due to many contract roles and short term experience roles I felt I needed to stay somewhere long term to strengthen my CV but I always felt undervalued me, was criminally underpaid for my job and was really struggling. Just prior to the pandemic I had made the decision to start looking for a new job but then Covid-19 hit and it made more sense to have job stability and a solid income versus my mental health so I stopped my search and struggled for 2 more years. Working for science in a hospital was hell for those 2 years and with a huge increase in workload and hardly getting a “thank you” for anything even if I went beyond, my soul just drained; rude colleagues not managing their time which then affected mine, throwing me under the bus and making me drop everything to get them out of a tight spot because I was the only one who could do the job , and some people with 'strong personalities' that I've clashed with were actually in occupational therapy. I was called in for an interview on a Friday afternoon, was offered the job on Saturday at lunchtime, and handed in my resignation first thing Monday morning. My notice period was messy, my boss dumped as much work on me as possible and was basically denial until the last 5 minutes before I was supposed to finish, but I left as many notes as I could and was done. I started my new role a month ago and couldn't be happier. I am in a job that is so fulfilling because it combines my hobby with my work experience. I work on a small but incredible team who treat me with respect and gratitude, they are so welcoming and friendly and have gone out of their way to teach me and update me in the role and I am leaving Work every day with a smile and a good look to the next day. I've waited for this role for so long in my career and after years of playing roles that were never really what I wanted to do, I'm over the moon to finally get what I wanted for so long. I used to read the Good News Friday posts with envy and always thought, 'why can't it be me?' but now it's finally here.”

A reunion for 40 years

A local woman reunites with the son she put up for adoption more than four decades ago (Author: Gardener)

40 yearsTOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - It was a dream that took more than 40 years to achieve. A dream that a local woman never thought could come true. Kranz Toledo Express Airport to find Myra Stevenson's family outside a window, eyes fixed on the tarmac. This will only be the second time I've held him," Stevenson said through tears. She is talking about Ben, the son she put up for adoption 41 years ago. Stevenson was in his early twenties. She had been sent to a home for unmarried mothers near her sister's family in Colorado. It is a time that is still burned into her heart. "I remember holding him in my arms. I remember when they came and took him out of my arms and told me this was the end and I should sign the last papers," she says softly. Then, about seven years ago, Myra's oldest son went to work and tracked Ben down online. Myra threw away the adoption papers years ago, believing she would never find him again. But she thought about Ben every single day. "A puzzle is missing a piece," explains Myra. “The puzzle has to fit. But now I can say it fits.” But after talking to them a little, I found out that these are my people. I was excited because I was looking for them just like they were looking for me," Ben said. After years of talking on the phone every day, Ben ended up in Toledo to meet and hug his family for the first time. Stevenson had been waiting to ask his forgiveness. "I didn't grow up without problems," Ben said, holding his mother. “I had everything I needed and wanted. Now a chapter is closing and this family is growing closer together.
