Roy Williams' "two favorite teams" will play for the title. Here are his thoughts on KU-UNC

Apr. 4 - NEW ORLEANS - Roy Williams, who coached basketball in Kansas for 15 seasons and 18 more in North Carolina, is hoping for an epic NCAA title game between the Jayhawks and Tar Heels Monday night at Caesars Superdome. Roy Williams'Apr. 4 - NEW ORLEANS - Roy Williams, who coached basketball in Kansas for 15 seasons and 18 more in North Carolina, is hoping for an epic NCAA title game between the Jayhawks and Tar Heels Monday night at Caesars Superdome. "There's only one downside for me - that's my two favorite teams are playing each other," he said of the KU-UNC matchup, which is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. Tip. But it's easy for me to put it this way: I don't draw for Kansas to lose. I only draw for North Carolina to play great. I never draw for Kansas to lose. That will never happen, but at the end of the game someone has to lose. Williams, who is an avid UNC fan in his first year of retirement after coaching the Heels to three national titles, reports he will be sitting amidst the Carolina cheering section Monday night as he did in the second half of KU's 81 - 65 Final Four semifinal win over Villanova and North Carolina's overall 81-77 win over Duke on Saturday in the dome. That would be natural because he has led the Tar Heels to three national titles in his 18 seasons and is close to virtually everyone on the current UNC team and athletic department. "Everyone on the North Carolina bench that I recruited except Brady (Manek)," Williams said. "Every staff member in North Carolina either helped me or played for me. Jackie Manuel (UNC director of player development) was on that team from 2005 (which won the NCAA title). Sean May (assistant) was MVP of our '05 ( NCAA). Title) Team. Brad Frederick (UNC Assistant) ... He said he always wants KU to do well "because of Wayne Simien, Kirk Hinrich, Jeff Boschee, Jacque Vaughn, Paul Pierce (members of his teams), but I didn't coach these guys (current Jayhawks). "Williams was able to rush from a National Association of Basketball Coaches event to get to the Caesars Superdome in time for the final half of the Nova-KU game when things got interesting." Last night, Villanova . .. I thought they were playing their tails. That was a big game. Kansas was too good for her. Every time Villanova made a run, Kansas just did it again," Williams said. "I thought our game against Duke could have been the best college basketball game I've ever seen, very exciting and very emotional. I thought those two games were great.” Williams has seen KU play twice in person this season. They're maybe the best defensive team in the country," Williams said of KU. "The return of Remy Martin gives them something they didn't have early on. “(Ochai) Agbaji is as good a player as he is in college basketball. If (David) McCormack plays like he did last night (25 points, nine rebounds against Wilson (11 points, 12 rebounds) and the rest of those guys played just fantastic. "I think it's a really, really really good basketball team in my opinion the two teams that play the best basketball of the year (Monday night) I think we ( Heels) have been at that level for the last three weeks, Kansas too We started doing better and playing better and better. We got better," Williams said. Other than that, Virginia Tech played great to beat us in the (ACC) tournament (72-59 on March 11). "We went to Cameron Indoor Stadium for that best-known game in college basketball history and killed it in the second half." North Carolina defeated Duke, 94-81, on March 5 in their last home game coached by Blue Devils legend Mike Krzyzewski. The top two teams of the country are playing,” say Te Williams. “Yeah, they (those two) are playing the best right now. Gonzaga was my favorite all year round. Even before the loss (to Arkansas in the NCAAs), they struggled with the game before the loss (in the 82-78 win over Memphis)," Williams said. I think Kansas and North Carolina are playing better than everyone else," Williams said . He was willing to provide analysis on KU and UNC. You can't let McCormack go in. You gotta hope you put him in trouble because they're a different team without him," Williams said. "Remy Martin ... You're looking at Kansas now, that's a lot different (when you win 10 straight games; UNC won five in a row) than at the beginning of the year. We have so many good three-point shooters. We're really good," he said about the heels. “Yes, we had some losses early on. Hubert Davis (coach) did a fantastic job putting those pieces together the way you should play.” Williams has been approached by some KU fans in New Orleans over the past few days. "They were really good. I said to them all the first night I was here, 'I hope to see you Monday night,'" Williams said at Allen Fieldhouse for the first time since coaching at KU. "I love the way I was treated there," Williams said. Kansas is very close to my heart and will always be a place I love, but these are the guys I've coached, where I went to school went where Wanda (wife) went to school and kids went to school." When asked if he had any prediction on the bottom line, Williams said, "No. I just hope it's going to be a great game. I hope it's a final that people will talk about the same way we did our game against Duke the other night."

The Mercury's Sound Off for Monday April 4th

MercuryThe Pennsylvania Republican legislature has proposed a sane bill barring boys from participating in girls' sports in grades K-12. The vast majority of voters support this bill, which would prevent boys from using their biological advantage to crush girls in athletic competitions. Yes, the Democrats - the unfortunate ones who ruin everything they touch! In response to Butch's March 30 comment. The coordination in long-term care facilities is controlled via the "Activities" department! For six years we had a family member at a local facility and I saw first hand what is happening. The "activities" staff actually train the residents who can reasonably understand who to vote for and I have seen them actually fill out a mail-in ballot for the resident and help the resident roll a signature! while dr Fauci reignites the scare talk about Covid, we can see that his prescription for fighting Covid has utterly failed. The seven-day moving average of Covid deaths in the US is almost exactly the same today as it was a year ago. Few are listening as the "news" media ignores that the US is heading into a deep recession that will likely make 2008 look like the proverbial "walk in the park." Democrat wasteful spending, Democrat cuts in our oil production, and Democrat regulations are creating the deep hole our economy is about to plunge into. For the last 5 years we have heard about President Trump's children breaking the law and going to jail. At Hunter Biden we have a laptop that is full of evidence of wrongdoing and as of yesterday we have bank transactions showing money flowing from Chinese fronted companies to Hunter Biden, then to Jim Biden and then to Joe Biden. PA-GOP leaders want to have security guards at external mail-in ballot boxes, serving mailboxes during business hours and demanding signatures when dropping off ballots. Eight states have used mail-in ballots for many years. Just because you lost the presidential election, you want change. But you have accepted victories for your Senate and House seats at the state and federal levels. Sounds like a bad loser. Is Patriot54 just trying to make the Democrats look stupid? Chris Rufo debunked CRT, and here's why Americans are upset about it: "Critical race theorists believe racism is inherent in the law and legal institutions of the United States..." per Brittanica.com. Additionally, CRT states that the American Revolution was fought to preserve slavery. To progressive liberal teachers and school boards who are so adamant that they don't indoctrinate our young children with radical and immoral sex education programs, they seem quite resistant to passing legislation that forbids subjecting our young children to radical and immoral sex education programs . I'm sure our resident fact-checker, David M., would have picked that up, so I'm sorry if I got ahead of you...but Lefty really outdid himself this time. On Tuesday's sound off, he said, "All Democrats stand for Ukraine and Republicans for Putin." I'm beginning to wonder who is more cognitively impaired, Lefty or Joe Biden. Most people here don't really want the truth. They just want constant confirmation that what they believe is the truth. Trump publicly asks Russia for information on Hunter Biden. Russian state television names Trump their partner and says they want to help him get re-elected. I never thought I would see that in America from a major political party or "colleague" Americans. You are not patriots, you are cult members. Selling out America for a scammer and a gallon of gas. I warned that President Biden shouldn't go to Europe, but he went anyway. Biden announced that we would train Ukrainian troops. He threatened in kind if Russia used chemical or nuclear weapons in Ukraine and called for Putin's ouster. All disagree U. We desperately need Biden to stay in his Delaware basement! To David M. regarding oil exploration in the United States If the United States government, which makes the rules and regulations, notifies your company that we do not intend to use your product in the future and will use a different product to replace your Replace product, why would you keep spending money to try to make or improve more product? This is the message Biden is sending. The right claims the left “hates” America. No, we just hate the America that the right is trying to create, that is governed solely by the right for the sole benefit of the right because they believe (falsely) that they alone "own" this country. Oh boy! Who would vote for an insurgent and a fake patriot for governor? Josh Shapiro should wipe the floor with this guy just like Biden did with Trump. Sound Off has become a part of The Mercury that cannot be canceled. Thanks. If Trump had had his way, there would be no NATO today. Given what is happening in the world today, Putin would have nothing to fear. Fortunately, Trump has no influence on that. He would have said to Putin: "Just take what you want." Trump was scared to death of Putin. I wonder if they brag about their winnings to their male friends? If you can't compete with men, change your sport to something you can compete fairly in. General relativity states that space and time are the same. Einstein discovered this when he kept showing up three miles late to his meetings. Hats off to Joe Biden and the Democrats in the House and Senate. Biden just signed legislation outlawing lynching. Who knew it was legal? I thought murder or killing someone was illegal. But Democrats felt it was important to ban lynching amid record inflation, record high gas prices and a war in Ukraine. Hey, it's important to keep scratching that scab, don't you think? The only reason Putin felt so emboldened to invade Ukraine without fear of any repercussions is that the US and EU are on a terrible path of self-loathing, ignoring their own geopolitical interests in order to pursue non-issues like promoting "destroying your own energy sector" while having no impact on global carbon emissions", etc. America is so screwed with nonstop nonsense by Sound Off's quartet of progressive Democratic clowns. Somewhere out there are 4 trees whose only purpose on earth is to replace the oxygen waste of Patriot54, David M, Lefty and Jay Miller. President Trump is asking Vladimir Putin to release the information he has about the Biden family scandal. That explains the Ukraine war. Sleepy Joe's government fuels war, causing millions of casualties to suppress the truth. He should have worked with Trump when he had the chance. Why doesn't anyone pay attention to our southern border and the high number of illegal immigrants who come to our country by the thousands? I just don't get how that's supposed to be good. Who pays for medical care, housing, transportation to wherever they want? Come to this country, but come legally! I used to store my M&Ms in it so I could eat them like a horse. Catholics urged to give 'renewed strength' to Holy Land Good Friday gathering

This year's Good Friday collection takes place on April 15th worldwide and can be carried online. (Author: Gardener)

FridayThis year's Good Friday collection takes place on April 15th worldwide and can be carried online. This year's Good Friday collection takes place on April 15th worldwide and can be carried online. A Vatican cardinal has urged Catholics to give "new vigor" to this year's Good Friday gathering for Christians in the Holy Land. "For two consecutive years, the Christians of the Holy Land have celebrated Easter and Christmas in a kind of isolation, without the warmth and solidarity of the pilgrims who visit the holy places and the local communities," wrote the prefect of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches. Cardinal Sandri said that even a small gift like "the widow's mite" helps "our brothers and sisters to go on living, hoping and bearing a living witness to the Word made flesh in places and in the streets like His." have seen present." This year's Good Friday gathering takes place on April 15 worldwide. Catholics can donate to the collection both online and in churches. The Holy See has overseen the annual gathering in the Holy Land since 1974, when St. Paul VI celebrated Good Friday as the day to be observed by parishes and bishops around the world. The collection is traditionally divided, with 65% going to the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land, which has been administering the holy sites of Christianity in of the region, with the remaining 35% going to the Congregation for the Eastern Churches for seminarians and priests, as well as educational and cultural activities support. Territories benefiting from the collection, referred to as the Pro Terra Sancta Collection, include Jerusalem, Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Turkey, Iran and Iraq. Alongside the letter, the Vatican released a detailed breakdown of how proceeds from the annual collection have helped Christians in the Holy Land in 2021. The Congregation for the Eastern Churches received $6 million from the Holy Land collection in 2021, about $3.7 million less than the 2020 collection. "The Congregation pays particular attention to the needs of these people and works to rebuild social structures through the local Eastern and Latin dioceses, as well as through the involvement of the Catholic organizations involved in the above countries." Securing refugees in neighboring countries like Lebanon and Jordan the necessary means for a dignified life requires the cooperation of all people of good will.” In a report on its activities in 2021, the Custody of the Holy Land noted the strain on its finances. It said: "Since the end of February 2020 we have been without pilgrims and this means serious economic difficulties for the local Christian communities, for the Christian families and also for the Custody." visit to Iraq last year to live in greater solidarity with their brothers and sisters in the Middle East. "Thus, as we look to Christ, who has touched our human reality to the core, let ourselves be inspired by the gestures of closeness made by Pope Francis on his apostolic journeys, and accept his invitation to show solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the Holy Living in the land, let us give new strength to the practice of gathering for the Holy Land,” said the 78-year-old Argentine cardinal. "In Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth and in many other shrines and monasteries around the world, prayers are being made for the Church, and we are invited to remember with heart and with a small gift all those who speak our name before the Lord, thank you for our generosity,” he said.

Champagne and tears, IV fluids and oxygen tanks

This was the week that "The Real Housewives of Orange County" turned into "The Real Middle Schoolers of Orange County Go on Field Trip to Aspen." IVThis was the week that "The Real Housewives of Orange County" turned into "The Real Middle Schoolers of Orange County Go on Field Trip to Aspen." And it had started so promisingly, that is, the housewives were taken to her mansion after disembarking from Heather Dubrow's private jet. But first a mansion tour, guided by the two concierges – conciergi? "Now that's what I call a water feature!" exclaims Gina Kirschenheiter, carefree again after last week's exorcism. Now the bowling alley, which according to Concierge #1 was built into a mine shaft left in the mountain when the mansion was built. The tour continues, but Gina, like a good Long Island girl, grabs a ball and rolls a quick punch. "I mean, my dad just died, so it's not like I'm trying to draw rank or anything," says Noella Bergener. Oh, but the thing is, Noella and your nemesis Heather aren't going to let this go unnoticed. "What does anyone say about that?" Heather asks the camera. "I mean, are we going to compare tragedies to see who gets the best room? Gina and Emily Simpson decide to share a bedroom and bed because of their behavior and are delighted to discover they got the only room on the same floor as the kitchen. We reach the second master bedroom and this time Noella tries a different route - she stays up later than everyone else so she will be less of a nuisance if she has this secluded room. Heather gives up and takes a room in the basement, not missing the opportunity to attack Noella by pointing out that the mistress of a sex dungeon in her Orange County home would have felt right at home in that windowless room. Also, Heather never gives up, as we'll find out later after the housewives come to drink at the fancy Aspen eatery where Matt Damon is on the menu. Emily decides that they should play a game called Tell Me Something About You I Don't Know. Heather offers up the fact that she has ugly feet, which Emily dismisses as an already known fact. However, Gina knows how to play more games than bowling. She tells the story about the time when she was on a date or maybe just a meeting. They stopped to pick up a third friend and when Gina tried to move into the back seat, she couldn't pull the front seat forward to slide into the back seat like one does in a two-door car. Then her date said to her, Um, Gina, that's a four-door. If this isn't a perfectly Gina-like story, it is as close as it gets. However, Jen Armstrong wins the game when she blurts out, "I've been engaged seven times." "Shut up," says Heather, which is the correct answer. Jen actually got seven rings, some of which she returned, some of which she still has. "Seven times," Heather says to the camera. But then, like the arrival of a plate of venison and parsnip rind, a real appetizer at this Aspen eatery, things take a turn. Heather starts snipping parsnips about the call Shannon made to Heather and Gina from her dinner party weeks earlier on their trip to New York City. Still upset, Heather tells Shannon that the call wasn't to see how Heather's live podcast show was going, but to try to show Heather and Gina that she, Emily, Jen, and Noella were in Orange County had more fun. Noella, who was doing well up until then, decides to stand up for Shannon. "I find a lot in Shannon that I can identify with," she says. Noella, who has lowered her deflector shields, is now picking up proton beams from Heather's defensive cannons. There are unmet demands for an apology before Heather storms off. After all that, back at the house, like a Greek choir, Emily and Gina recount the moments of the evening. "She's (excited)" says Gina, noting that Emily has kind of stirred things up. "If there wasn't so much (stuff) I wouldn't have anything to stir," Emily admits to the camera. The Aspen journey continues next week, and in the preview we see six housewives going to an archery lesson... and we hope no one gets a target taped to their backs.

Roman Reigns decisively defeats Brock Lesnar and Vince McMahon wrestles an impromptu match. (Author: Gardener)

Roman ReignsRoman Reigns stands head and shoulders above the rest, scoring a rare clean and decisive win over Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. Reigns has now unified the Universal and WWE Championship belts - although they're sure to be split again soon - and the key question is what's next now that neither feels like legitimate competition. It wasn't what you would call a great WrestleMania, as it lacked everything that could become a legendary moment and didn't feel like it was building on the future in any way. But it was a fun show with strong wrestling and unforgettable performances. The show's big surprise was an impromptu wrestling match that pitted Vince McMahon against Pat McAfee. It was dark but led to a great segment of Stone Cold Steve Austin doing his thing. Edge defeated AJ Styles in a great match and Randy Orton and Riddle retained their Raw Tag Team Championships in a solid opening bout. What follows is a very good Night 1 of WrestleMania 38, which included the return of Stone Cold Steve Austin for a No Holds Barred match against Kevin Owens. It was one of two returns, alongside Cody Rhodes, who is jumping on board from AEW to face Seth Rollins in a standout match. The big surprise result was Ronda Rousey losing her match with Charlotte Flair, albeit in a way that set the stage for a second leg. This match got really explosive very quickly. Lesnar hits three straight suplexes and then throws Reigns out of the ring. Lesnar confronts Paul Heyman on the outside where Reigns impales him through the barricade. Back inside, Reigns hit another spear for a two count. Reigns blitzed Lesnar with Superman Punches, but Lesnar countered the third into a German Suplex. He then landed a few more Germans, but Reigns countered one with a Superman Punch. He tried another spear, but Lesnar snapped him into an F5 for a two count. Then came a ref bump when Reigns grabbed Lesnar into the ref. With the ref down, Reigns hit Lesnar with a low blow and then took the title from Heyman, smashing Lesnar with it, a call back to her finish at Crown Jewel last year. Reigns speared Lesnar from behind - which actually looked like a bungle - and then hit him with another spear, but Lesnar countered it with a Kimura lock. Reigns did a great job selling it. Lesnar heaved Reigns for another F5, but Reigns pushed off, spearing Lesnar and taking the win. Reigns beats Lesnar cleanly in the middle. It's hard to say this wasn't a disappointment, literally billed as the greatest WrestleMania match of all time, but it was far from even the best match between Reigns and Lesnar. Now that Reigns has slapped Lesnar cleanly in the middle of the ring, what's next? He's always been a champion, and while WrestleMania has built a few challengers — Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens, Drew McIntyre — Reign's head and shoulders feel better protected than anyone else. For the second straight year, WrestleMania ends with Reigns standing as champion. Yes, Vinny Mac ripped out of his suit and fought Pat McAfee after McAfee's win over Austin Theory. McAfee taunted McMahon and Theory, causing McMahon to become angry and demand that McAfee wrestle him. As soon as the bell rang, Theory attacked McAfee from behind. McAfee got back up, but then Theory pulled his legs and rammed his groin into the ring post. McMahon then got a football, kicked it into McAfee's stomach and pinned it. As Theory and McMahon celebrated their win, Stone Cold Steve Austin walked into the ring. It was a priceless moment: the crowd's pop was amazing, as was McMahon's facial reaction. Austin hit a huge stunner at Austin Theory and it was just McMahon and Austin in the ring. Austin asked McMahon if he would have a beer with him. McMahon takes a drink, eats a stunner and the crowd goes wild. Austin and McAfee drink beers to celebrate - until Austin stuns McAfee too. A simple A-to-B match, but one that had the crowd massively involved the entire time. McAfee won by countering Theory's A-Town down finisher in a rollup for the 3-count. After Vince McMahon introduced Theory, the match began with McAfee and Theory trading strikes. The theory set McAfee up for a suplex, but McAfee countered with a suplex of his own - which got a nice big bang. After Theory heated up McAfee a bit, McAfee pushed Theory outside, strapped on the announcer's headphones, and commented while defeating Theory. On the inside, McAfee attempted a Swanton bomb but Theory dodged it. Theory attempted a superplex, but in an impressive athletic display, McAfee backflipped off the top rope and landed on his feet. He then jumped onto the top rope and hit a suplex himself. McAfee regained control by attacking McAfee with a forearm. This led to the goal where he attempted to hit his target but McAfee countered for the win. The crowd's enthusiasm made this simple, solid match great fun. This match was scheduled to take place in WrestleMania Night 1 but was shortened in time. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods came out in Big E gear in a tribute to their partner who is currently recovering from a neck injury. This was a quick match. Ridge Holland and Sheamus attacked The New Day before the bell rang. The teams fought outside, including Sheamus' minion Butch (Pete Dunne). When Kofi and Xavier came back into the ring, the bell finally rang. The New Day hit Ridge Holland with a nice barrage of attacks, then Xavier Sheamus blasted wide. Kofi tries to jump off the steps onto Sheamus, but Sheamus gets him out with a brogue kick. In the ring, Ridge Holland placed Xavier with a Northern Grit for the win. Edge and AJ Styles were cast in the "Show Stealer" spot and had plenty of time to deliver a classic. It would be going too far to call this a classic, but it was a great match between two legends. If there's criticism, it's the end - Edge hit AJ with a spear in mid-air after AJ was distracted by Damian Priest, who is now allied with Edge. Edge worked his way over Styles' shoulder early in the match and hit a nasty shoulder crusher (imagine a tombstone, except instead of a ram, Edge dropped his knee into Styles' shoulder). AJ opted for the 450 Splash early, but Edge got his knees up. There was a great submission trade midway where AJ rolled into a calf crusher, but Edge countered it with a crossface. The last few minutes were great. There was a gnarly spot where AJ did a suplex from the second rope to the ring apron. From there, he tried a Phenomenal Forearm, but Edge was adamant and wanted a spear. AJ dodged him and hit his Styles Clash that had been building up throughout the match. AJ then tried another Phenomenal forearm but was momentarily distracted by Damian Priest. He then tried to move, but was hit by a spear in mid-air. Sasha Banks and Naomi are the new Women Tag Team Champions, defeating teams of Queen Zelina and Carmella, Shayna Bazler and Natalya, and Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley. Not only was this match thrown together, but all teams were too. However, despite a makeshift setup, all eight women worked super hard and put together a great match. It would be pointless for me to describe the action here as this match was essentially a steady flow of big moves. Normally I would use that as a criticism, but when you have eight cast members and only one big star among them in Sasha Banks, that's the best way. It also worked because the less developed actors like Carmella and Zelina weren't around long enough for their weaknesses to show through, so everyone looked good and everything looked tight. Lots of creative tandem attacks that were fun (and impossible to describe). The best compliment I can give is the simple observation that from the start the crowd wasn't involved in this match at all I would imagine given the aforementioned weak stature but by the end they were on their feet. I hate the fact that a professional wrestler got beat up by a comedy celebrity but that was too funny to get upset about. Or rather, if you're into Jackass, that was fun. When Zayn started harassing the Jackass boys outside, Knoxville sprayed him with a fire extinguisher as a distraction. Back in the ring, Zayn knocked Knoxville down with every possible weapon. Chris Pontius then came into the ring as Party Boy Chris Pontius, a throwback to the old Jackass character. After rubbing himself up against Zayn, he was knocked out and kicked out. Zayn stuffed him under the ring, but then Wee Man crawled out and bombarded him with kicks and punches. In the ring, Wee Man bodyslammed Zayn and Knoxville went off the top rope and hit a splash for a two count. The highlight was Zayn kicking Wee Man in the face which caused an incredible heat from the crowd. As Zayn scaled the ropes, Knoxville triggered Pyro and he fell. Knoxville then threw a bowling ball into Zayn's groin. The end came when Knoxville electrified Sami with a taser and then pinned his shoulders to the ground with a giant mousetrap. Rating: If you like Jackass, this was 4 stars fun. Bobby Lashley pinned Omos after a suplex and two spears. The whole match focused on Lashley repeatedly going for a suplex, but Omos used his size and strength to smash it away. A lot of the game consisted of him executing generic big man offense - clubbing, a bear hug, things like that. Lashley got a suplex on his third try and then speared him from behind. Then he was able to set up a proper javelin, land it, and claim victory. Omos was built as a giant who would one day be killed. Despite an unimpressive match, it was a big win for Lashley, setting him up well for a WrestleMania title chase. The first match of WrestleMania 38 was the Triple Threat Tag Team Championship, which pitted Orton and Riddle against teams Alpha Academy and Street Profits. After a super fun match, Orton and Riddle held on when Orton pinned Gable. After the match, the Street Profits congratulated RK-Bro on their victory and invited two-time NCAA Champion and WWE signee Gable Stevenson into the ring to celebrate. WWE obviously has high hopes for Stevenson and is highlighting him on both WrestleMania nights. The rules of the game were odd: there are always three men in the ring, one from each team, but no disqualifications. What's stopping the other tag team wrestlers from jumping in at any time? It started off explosively as Riddle blitzed Chad Gable with a high kick. From there, both teams got heat on Riddle, leading to a hot day from Randy Orton. And what a hot day it was, the crowd went wild for Orton's day as he knocked out everyone, including Ford and Gable on the outside. Riddle and Orton hit stereo second-rope DDTs in the ring and set up stereo RKOs, but Otis interrupted. From there, all teams threw huge tandem offenses against each other, including a crazy blockbuster by Street Profits. Orton tries to RKO Dawkins, but Dawkins pushes him into the ropes and then plants Orton with a spinebuster. As Ford was preparing for a top rope splash, Riddle caught him with an amazing Springboard RKO. Gable then attempted a top rope crossbody, but Orton RKOed him in mid-air to win. WrestleMania Sunday will be opened by none other than Triple H, who has turned up unannounced following his recent retirement announcement. Upon entering, Triple H placed his boots in the center of the ring while the crowd chanted "Thank you, Hunter!" and "Too cute!" He grabbed a microphone, said he wanted to thank the crowd and welcomed them to WrestleMania.

Luka Doncic dismembers Milwaukee's defense

The Bucks had all their stars back on the rotation but Khris Middleton suffered a cold-shooting afternoon. (Author: Gardener)

Luka DoncicThe Milwaukee Bucks all had their lineup back on Sunday afternoon, but they didn't look quite the same against the Dallas Mavericks. The Bucks' offensive flow was disrupted and the tiniest cracks in Milwaukee's defense were pointed out by Mavericks star Luka Doncic at 118-112 -Exploited Dallas win in Fiserv Forum. The Bucks fell to 34-10 as the Stars played Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton. All of them returned against Dallas, but the Mavericks' aggressive defense upset the Bucks' rhythm. Antetokounmpo had 28 points and 10 rebounds despite a flurry of doubles teams. "I think they looked at him from a lot of different perspectives," said Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer. “Throw a lot of extra help. "But give them a lot of credit. Your commitment to it, your defense. All year they were a good defensive team. We all need to play a little bit better. Giannis, the people around him. But thanks to Dallas, they were good today.” Masterful with 32 points, 15 assists and seven rebounds, Doncic continued his push late into the season to play with Antetokounmpo, the Philadelphia 76ers' Joel Embiid and the Denver Nuggets' Nikola Jokic to get into the MVP talk. The Bucks' shooting was sharp early, with eight of their 12 field goals falling to three points in the first quarter. Milwaukee took a 10-point lead in the second quarter, but the Mavericks rallied and took a 57-55 lead at the break. It looked like the Mavericks were going to pull away in the third quarter when Doncic hit a step-back three-pointer for a 72-63 advantage. But the Bucks hit back with a 14-0 run that included three buckets from Antetokounmpo and a four-point play from Pat Connaughton. The Bucks led 91-90 early in the fourth quarter as Doncic took control of the game. He scored five points and found Dorian Finney-Smith with a nice pass for a three-pointer. After Atntetokounmpo converted two free throws, Doncic hit Reggie Bullock with a cross-court pass for another three-pointer. Subscribe to our Milwaukee Bucks newsletter for updates on the team. "Luka can score on all three levels," said Holiday. "It doesn't matter if it's one-on-one or screen-and-roll, so first try to stop the ball and keep it in front of you. Next is the guy he's playing with, the screener. You have to try to be in there and show bodies. Make it crowded so it doesn't look like it's open. "He's a good player. He makes good games out of it." A three-pointer from Lopez put the Bucks within 106-101 with 5:03 remaining. Doncic was then fouled by Holiday on a three-point try, a decision made after a challenge by Budenholzer confirmed. and the Mavericks star sunk free throws. Bullock skipped on Dallas' next possession and Milwaukee didn't threaten again. "They don't allow you to play one-on-one," said Antetokounmpo. "They came from the baseline (for doubles teams ). They were just trying to get other people to hit them. To be effective against this team, you need to attempt an offensive rebound. Try to attack them early in the transition. Try to move the ball." Antetokounmpo shot 12 for 22, missing his three tries from three-point range. Holiday had 20 points and nine assists. Middleton struggled with 11 points on 3-for-14 shooting. The Bucks have four regulars games left of the season and the Mavericks' defensive approach could be something the Bucks will have to deal with in the playoffs. "Honestly, I just feel like Khris and Giannis just missed shots," said Holiday. "There were a lot of shots, usually take and make. Dallas does a good job of packing the color and making it frustrating. Scrums, double teaming, throwing lots of different things at them. It's not that it doesn't happen or that it happens very often." The best and worst of Jerrod Carmichael's hosting debut

On this week's Saturday Night Live, comedian Jerrod Carmichael stepped into the hot seat of host promoting his latest HBO standup special. (Author: Gardener)

Jerrod Carmichael'sOn this week's Saturday Night Live, comedian Jerrod Carmichael stepped into the hot seat of hosts promoting his latest HBO standup special, Rothaniel. Of course, that continued this season of "SNL's" impressive streak of first-time hosts, this time with someone with - admittedly - less star power than the rest. Carmichael spent his monologue talking about "it" (the Oscars controversy between Will Smith and Chris Rock, of course), while also acknowledging that he's definitely on the lower side when it comes to star power and "SNL" hosts is. Even when Carmichael had his own sitcom on NBC — The Carmichael Show, which he helped create and starred in for three seasons — he never got the chance to promote it on SNL. But things are different now, both with the aforementioned HBO standup special and the fact that Carmichael was officially outed as gay on the special. It's an openness and honesty that one imagines would shape Carmichael's role as the newest celebrity host of SNL's 47th season. Regarding "SNL's" handling of the Smith/Rock situation, Carmichael's monologue didn't even go along the lines of saying names at all. Carmichael only referred to the situation as "it," saying that something that happened just six days ago felt more like it happened "somewhere between Jamiroquai and 9/11," like the news cycle and discussion about it expired during the week. Despite pleas from Lorne Michaels, Carmichael wasn't quite able to heal the nation with that monologue (since "the nation doesn't even know [Carmichael]"), but he established himself as a host who could prove something to the audience that was maybe not known to him. After "Word Crunch" from the Zoe Kravitz episode, the next game show sketch would always be an uphill battle. "Post-COVID Game Show" (where the game show was "Is My Brain Okay") was the next game show sketch, after all. In general, it's difficult for "SNL" to do a game show sketch without feeling like it's been done before, and even though the premise of "Post-COVID Game Show" has never been seen on "SNL ' was made, it really did feel like it had. The "SNL" game show sketch formula is all about having a fake host and pretty, breezy participants, but despite the specific angle, "Post-COVID Game Show" didn't come across as anything special other than a "What's Wrong with That picture?" sketch. Comedian Jerrod Carmichael comes out as gay ahead of SNL debut As one of the two sketches from the night that really gave Carmichael something to do as a host — the other was "Scattering Remains" — that was The only real knock on "Shop TV" is that it was a bit longer than it needed to be. The short bit of Alex Moffat's character from Christian Lunchboxes didn't ultimately have to be part of the sketch, and the final bit (of Carmichael's character, the essentially fisting the Rhylee Rainbowlocks doll) was kind of pulled. But the "rainbow bush" really got the live audience going, and the visual comedy that emerged from it worked, as youthful as The Host However, s of the home shopping network of Cecily Strong and Mikey Day were the true MVPs of the sketch, even if it managed to keep the focus away from them. That said: a great beat and a less-than-great flow from Davidson...but it makes up for it in both substance and execution and rapping from Chris Redd and other more established rappers. This sketch saw this week's musical guest, Gunna - with the line of the sketch asking, "Why does this movie look like a book?" re: the double VHS of "Amadeus" - and Dirt Nasty (Simon Rex, the reveals he looks a lot more like Ernest P. While Davidson can get exhausted just relying on comedy-rap, there's no denying the production value that goes into these music videos, especially since this one often looks like a Puff Daddy music video and Mase looked. Kyle Mooney's bizarre reactions were a highlight of this season, so it's understandable why there's a sketch like this one" and "Scattering Remains" both felt like "I Think You Should Leave" sketches, which there are They aired last week on SNL, and it's hard to tell if that's going to win in the case of "Story. Scattering Remains" maybe because it's the night's "I Think You Should Leave" skit, in a way and way that actually be the best for Carmichael as a moderator sten worked.” His aloofness in this skit really helped banish the chaos and absurdity of goth,” was easily the highlight of this week's skits. There's just something about a catchy '90s themed theme song and the guys from Please Don't Destroy aren't just normal, they're just plain sluts who really made the skit work. It's the kind of sketch Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett would have done together in previous seasons; Unlike that duo, however, Please Don't Destroy's take on this type of comedy was quite well received. Nothing against Chris Redd, but a sketch like "Seat Fillers" was really reminiscent of how "SNL" once dropped an actor who was actually quite an impressionist in Jay Pharoah. Because as funny as Redd is - and even in this sketch - it's hard to ignore that many of his Smiths are screaming and vague Smith tics rather than an actual good impression. The sketch itself wasn't even necessarily bad given the angle it came from: the seat filler's perspective (played by Carmichael and Kyle Mooney, who were funny in their awkwardness). As previously mentioned, Mooney was quite funny in his awkwardness in "Seat Fillers." And it was unlike his (and the audience's) discomfort in Story. Honestly, this episode wasn't the best to get consistently strong performances from any of its regular cast members, due to both the allocation of screen time and the material. But Mooney had strong performances in sketches that weren't necessarily that strong. It was open in the cold, but when you have Cecily Strong as Jeanine Pirro, it means Cecily Strong immediately gave the best performance of the episode. J. Simpson) on Weekend Update kind of fell into the same queue as the rest of Weekend Update features lately, but at the same time, "SNL" clearly put her in that position because she certainly knows she can deliver -- and she did. The thing about Carmichael as host ended up being actually the thing about Carmichael as lead actor on "The Carmichael Show": While he has stage presence and can effortlessly perform live in front of audiences as a stand-up comedian when it comes to being in the same live playing environment, he is no longer the most dynamic person in the room. The only sketches Carmichael was able to really play a character in were on "Shop TV" and "Scattering Remains," and even then, both were low-key and low-energy — in a way necessary for the sketch's comedy. But in general, Carmichael could have been substituted for anyone else in any of the sketches he was in, and they would have been exactly the same. The "Baby Clothes" pre-tape sketch (which had some really good bits) really highlighted this, as Carmichael and Bowen Yang played a couple in the skit and looked like they were working as a duo...but really, the die Sketch relied on Yang's reactions, not so much Carmichael's. Overall, this was a memorable episode, and despite three separate comedic takes (the monologue, "Seat Fillers" and Weekend Update) to a very memorable current event. By far the best sketch of the episode, it was shortened in time and only briefly featured the host (for a while it wasn't even about his character).
